Mawson Lakes possibly now “merging” with Greenacres is interesting.

"merging" ? or Mawson Lakes has informed the league that they will be shutting up shop and not affiliating in 2025 and they're using the word "merge" to get around the 3-player rule. The Bedge wrote:Heard this is officially underway.. and expect an outcome by the end of the month.bird of prey wrote:Mawson Lakes possibly now “merging” with Greenacres is interesting.
I'd normally ask this stuff direct myself, but my Greenacres contact is out of action right now

How does this happen in this day and age? Surely it's either Mawson Lakes or it's Greenacres, it's not under 12's.The Bedge wrote:Heard this is officially underway.. and expect an outcome by the end of the month.bird of prey wrote:Mawson Lakes possibly now “merging” with Greenacres is interesting.
If a club can cease to exist then it closes up IMO, will Mawson Lakes Oval be the C & D Grade home ground? Has ML ever had a clubhouse upgrade? It was puny last time I went there, I'm actually suprosed they existed as long as they did, credit to everyone involved.

I thought Mawson Lakes Oval was meant to have some re-development done on it soon from the University

This “merger” pretty much looks like a way to have incoming players counted as 0 pointers, as well as have no limit of how many players they can take.
Good approach though. Sign a stack of players from a club that is struggling. Club then folds. Then come up with a plan to merge where the club will be called Greenacres, wear Greenacres uniforms, be known as the Dragons, and play at Greenacres home ground….

Big decision to do a "merger" even if its more likely a takeover
To alter the history of your footy club for the sake of recruiting 10 blokes from 2 divisions below you to get around a rule
Not sure i would be supporting it if i was a part of the Greenacres Footy Club
It doesnt look like it it will bring any benefits other than a few extra recruits this year.

Re: 2026 Adelaide Footy League - Division 5
Curious.. Mawson Lakes started as St Pauls OS - changed their name when they lost connection with the school, but still had SPOS on their guernseys from memory.
Did they retain anything in their constitution that refers back to the school + were old scholars zero pointers?
If they merge, would old scholars become zero pointers for Greenacres?
Or when St Pauls came in, did that effectively remove that ability?

Since when does a league prevent clubs from merging? It’s still only 6 weeks since the 2025 season ended so wouldn’t have thought its “late”.

Merger (especially if you want 0 point players) requires a shitload more then just
"Yo - we merging but everything is staying the same btw give us players for 0 points"

If you go looking, I reckon there's a whole thread on it somewhere. The Bedge wrote:Curious.. Mawson Lakes started as St Pauls OS - changed their name when they lost connection with the school, but still had SPOS on their guernseys from memory.
