Sorry to break it to you lads I don't mean me as in the Boon house, I mean all of us, as a society, we're having Xmas again this year FFS.

I had a girlfriend last Christmas and she asked what plans I had for the day. I told her I usually spend it alone, don't go anywhere, clean up the house and have a full on seafood feast consisiting of lobster tails, Moreton Bay Bugs and King Crab claws/legs.

She thought it was bizarre to the point she thought I was talking shit, I see my kids Christmas Eve and tell them to spend the main day with their mum as we have our big family day on Boxing Day. (Her family have theirs 2 weeks prior).

Anywho, I woke at hers on Christmas morning and made some croissants when she informed me of her brother doing a Christmas BBQ, after having to explain that I like the freedom of the day, if I wanna drink, I can without worrying about driving or Ubering I relunctantly agreed to stop in til 2pm.

We get there and the BBQ is a packet of f******* Coles snags and some 3 day old bread, she even made a smartarse jibe to everyone there about that I won't be eating because of my plans for the day.

2pm came, I bailed after two cans and she said she won't be far behind me. She came over about 5 hours later, a few deep and full of attitude, I got out the goodies and she refused to eat any out of protest, I was shattered

This Christmas is back to how I love it, I don't think the day could've landed much better either, I'm looking at closing our section Wednesday to give everyone 5 straight days off to refresh and a run up day into Christmas Day,

My wife is a manager in retail and works hard over Christmas and generally works Boxing Day so she now enjoys relaxing. I am a lazy sod so it’s worked out well

I do enjoy seeing the extended family but the day is such an effort

It’s great when you have young kids, mine are in their 20’s so they don’t really care.

The magic might return if they have babies

Mine are pretty much the same, we try and do a surprise present or two but most of the time it's getting stuff they want.

Having a few extra drinking partners is good fun though, even better when I flog them at beer pong

My kids and I will catch up on Christmas Eve or another day somewhere over the period, worst case scenario is that we all meet at mine for breakfast on Boxing Day before heading to wherever our main event is.
