Step 1 — Match details

50-over match reduced to 26 overs each

India: 136/9 in 26 overs

Multiple rain interruptions during India’s innings

Final target for Australia: 131 to win

Step 2 — DLS resources

Duckworth-Lewis uses “resources” (overs + wickets) to calculate fair targets.

After all rain interruptions:

India’s total resource used: 60.0%

Australia’s resource available: 57.8%

Step 3 — Formula
Target=India’s score×Australia’s resourceIndia’s resource+1
Target=India’s score×
India’s resource
Australia’s resource

+1
Target=136×57.860.0+1
Target=136×
60.0
57.8

+1
Target=136×0.963+1=131
Target=136×0.963+1=131

✅ Final DLS Target:
Australia need 131 runs to win.

India had slightly more resources (60%) than Australia (57.8%), so the target was adjusted down from 136 to 131.

Now in these reduced overs matches, the umpires have to decide how many overs are to be bowled, if and when the rain should stop. Not only that, they must also decide the new run rate required by the batting side, per the new number of overs to be bowled...

And they do this by multiplying the number of balls bowled, by the number of balls faced. Then dividing that figure by the average age of the batting side, minus, the number of spanners in a sidchrome tool kit.

...if play to recommence sometime in the next half hour, 45 mintures, Sri Lanka would have to be scoring somewhere in the vicinity of 35 to 36 runs an over, or there abouts. Not an impossible task, but pretty f*****g close to it.

The Birks and RM's are still in the office, they'll be on the green around 6pm.

India has now lost 17 consecutive ODI tosses - back to the 2023 World Cup final.

It’s a run across 3 Captains in KL Rahul, Rohit Sharma and now Shubman Gill.

Wouldn’t think 265 would be enough few early wickets would make it interesting though.
