Last race at Gawler today, old fashioned plunge from $126 to $8.50

Night Cruiser had duck eggs for form, one win from 26 starts. First run for new trainer. Leader goes out about ten lengths clear of field and it sits on its outside, instead of dying like expected it boots away on the bend to win by several lengths. Plunge successful.

One of the more dodgy things you will ever see, but not surprised with the rumours re the stable

Perhaps they were the first market.

Was watching the racing yesterday but did not catch that at the time.

To what rumour regarding the stable do you refer to?

Stewards have rejected an appeal from a veteran trainer who was found guilty over synthetic EPO use.

Betsy revealed on Wednesday that South Australian horseman Darryl Carrison fronted the stewards following a long-running investigation into a positive swab returned by one of his horses.

Stewards reported on Thursday that EPO was detected in Carrison’s horse Rubikton during an out-of-competition test conducted on January 16, 2025.

Carrison pleaded guilty to a presentation charge at the inquiry but said his stables had been contaminated, a claim stewards rejected.

Originally scheduled for August, the hearing was adjourned to allow Carrison time to provide expert evidence. However, despite calling a witness, he failed to present any expert report supporting his case.

Instead, the stewards considered expert testimonies and reports from multiple authorities.

According to their report, stewards said they also relied on evidence from Carrison’s mobile phone.

A synthetic product designed to replicate the effects of naturally occurring Erythropoietin, synthetic EPO stimulates the production of red blood cells in bone marrow and regulates the concentration of red blood cells and haemoglobin in the blood.

While the standard penalty for such an offence is five years, mitigating factors including his guilty plea and personal circumstances led to a one-year reduction. Stewards also made a point of Carrison’s previous offences and said his disqualification will commence at midnight on October 14, 2025.

Carrison lodged an appeal and requested a stay of proceedings which stewards rejected on Thursday.

Carrison’s ban begins on October 14 according to stewards, but his stakes wining 4 year-old Sav On Ice has been scratched from Saturday’s Murray Bridge Gold Cup.

Not sure why he got a reduction, notwithstanding his guilty plea.

Fifth offence.

The most damming bit was his claim that his stables were contaminated. Found to be a lie as he left evidence on his phone that I surmise to have been retained messages relating* to use, procurement or both.

A cheat.

The horse had a JO with the new stable and won it well in a strong field comparing to the race it was in Monday. I know multiple form analysts found it

One of racing’s most popular administrators, the chairman of the Melbourne Racing Club, has quit.

The club confirmed his resignation on Friday. Cameron Fisher was elected the new chairman.

Betsy has been told there is an emergency board meeting on Friday to elect his replacement. Kanga was widely regarded as one of the most influential figures in the sport.

In a statement, Kanga blamed a number of ‘public attacks’ for his decision to stand down.

”In recent weeks there has been a series of public attacks directed at me personally. While I completely reject the nature and accuracy of those attacks, I do not want them to distract from the Club, its members, or the excitement of the Caulfield Cup Carnival,” the statement said.

”My decision to step aside is about putting the interests of the Club and the broader racing industry ahead of my own. The MRC is bigger than any one individual, and I want to ensure the focus remains where it belongs – on racing, our members, staff, and delivering a world-class Spring Carnival.

”It has been a privilege to lead the Melbourne Racing Club and to work alongside so many dedicated people who care deeply about racing.

”We successfully secured the future of Sandown Racecourse, ensuring it remains a vital part of Victorian racing; we restored the Caulfield mounting yard to its rightful place at the heart of the course; and we saved more than $250 million by halting an unnecessary proposed grandstand redevelopment and delivering a more practical, member-focused plan for Caulfield’s future.

”Under my leadership, the Club has also strengthened its financial position — moving decisively to reduce debt and move forward with renewed commercial confidence.

”The Club is in a strong position for the future, with outstanding leadership and a talented team across all levels. I wish the Committee, our members, and our staff every success in the years ahead.”
