Stadium looks likely to get the go ahead if todays parliment procedings is anything to go by.

For the second weekend in a row, Tasmania's proposed Macquarie Point stadium has drawn a large crowd to Hobart's parliament lawns — this time to stand in support of the project.

On December 4, Tasmania's Legislative Council will vote on whether to approve or reject a 23,000-seat stadium, bringing years of debate to an end.

Katrina Devereux believes a stadium will bring growth to the state "and a future for our children".

"My son's actually left [the state] because there's nothing for us in Tasmania. We actually need things for the young people," she said.

"I've got two little grandchildren, so yes, we're very passionate about the stadium."

A similar reason compelled Emma McQueen to attend.

"I feel like we have nothing in Tassie and it's about time we got something to help build the revenue for everything else," Ms McQueen said.

Tasmania Police estimated "potentially up to 15,000 people" attended Sunday's rally.

Organiser of last week's anti-stadium rally Roland Browne said a "similar-sized crowd" gathered last Sunday.

Police estimated that 1,500 people were at the anti-stadium rally.

In a speech to the pro-stadium rally, Premier Jeremy Rockliff thanked those who gathered.

"I couldn't be prouder," Mr Rockliff said.

"To those who have travelled from any corner of the state, to the mums to the dads, to the nans to the pops, the boys and the girls, from every corner of our wonderful state, to make sure that your voice was heard loud and clear."

Not sure the Dill is capable of making the next decision that follows in a timely manner to get rid of the unwanted bye.
I wonder if they have worked out yet the extra team means less 2nd class "blockbuster" games? Instead of say Hawks playing Bulldogs a 2nd time, now they play Tassie, they cant find enough good games now for Thursday and Friday night footy.

Will the 20th team be out of WA or the NT? The safe play is probably WA.
Then 10 years further down the track an NT team and a 3rd from Queensland. Pressure night grow sooner if as expected, Brisbane and Gold Coast dominate the next decade, the comp could become quite boring in the next few years with these 2 facing off in numerous Grand Finals

Nah it moves them one club closer to a 20 team competition and then conferences with blockbusters every weekend.

Wouldn't think it would be a complete stay at home model.

Play each team in your division twice for 18 games.

Then play 5 cross division games for a total of 23. This is where Collingwood would get their 3 interstate trips a year

Throw in an in-season competition as well for good measure

Conferences with a Victorian division would mean a guarantee that the MCG gets maximum finals each year.

You could mix the conferences up and then every team in one conference play each other twice (H&A) and then you play everyone from the other conference once alternating between H&A each year.

Why would you need to play every side in the other conference.....

We dont have an even fixture as it is now so equity isnt exactly a high priority point of the AFL.

I would say H&A within your own division and then the AFL would use the 5 cross division games in the way they use the double ups to provide the bottom placed sides with easier fixtures eg right now West Coast would double up against Kangaroos, Richmond ect whilst Brisbane would double up against Collingwood, Geelong ect.

Because otherwise there is zero chance they put Collingwood, Carlton, Richmond, Essendon in a situation where they might not play each other every year. Same for the Showdown, Derby etc.
