The AFL would be very concerned with North and West Coast being as poor as they are for as long as they have been.
North
2020 17th 3 wins
2021 18th 4.5
2022 18th 2
2023 17th 3
2024 17th 3
2025 16th 5.5
West Coast
2022 17th 2
2023 18th 3
2024 16th 5
2025 18th 1
Numbers like these over a 5 year period would make the AFL very nervous.

To be honest I don't see them sacking him anytime soon and he's really only had half of 2023 and all of 2024/25 in the chair. He's contracted for 2 more years.
If they do where to then, a rookie or try ( good luck ) to convince a Simpson or Longmire or an experienced coach elsewhere to come on board?
If you want to go quickly, go alone.
If you want to go far, go together.

As a Blues supporter I know changing coaches isn’t the answer but not improving with the same coach ain’t the answer either.
Tough call either way

We actually should of had more wins but ran out of legs against the crows and Richmond's mates at AFL house made sure they got over the line.
Yeo couldn't get on the park. Allen was done all season and out the door, McGovern got a head knock early and we lost him for the season.
When you are down the bottom and you have 3 senior players out, it really kills you.
Honestly Jim, you are dead set flog sometimes but I still love you.

Re: AFL 2025 Silly Season
People are worried about an extra pick probably in the mid 20's after all the FS, NGA and what not, I think you should be more concerned about the band 1 compo we will get for Allen.Armchair expert wrote:Booney wrote:West Coast get an end of first round comp pick in 2025 and 4 rookie list spots that can be kept for 2026, 2027 and 2028.

You'll end up with 1, 2 (Allen) 15, 19 (Assistance), 20, 34, 52.
Could have been 8 for 27 and 15 for 34 if you didn't ( as Jim duly notes make a shit decision ) and take Hawthorns two picks over Carltons.
Then it would have been 1,2*,8,19*,20,27. You then have something to work with even in a poor draft.
If you want to go quickly, go alone.
If you want to go far, go together.

Across 14 VFL appearances this year, Stevens was frequently among Geelong's best players, averaging 27.4 disposals and 5.9 tackles per game, and amassing 30 or more disposals on six different occasions.
His work around stoppages was immense averaging 8.1 clearances per game, while also pushing forward to average 4.1 inside 50s per match.
The phenomenal season also saw Stevens earn his chance at the top level, making his AFL debut in Round 17 against Richmond.
The emerging on-baller made an impression right away, collecting 21 disposals, eight clearances, 14 score involvements and a goal on debut.
Bit like Fiorini from Gold Coast by the sounds of it.
Is this where I say “ but he’s better than Fiorini”?
Not sure why we would be targeting him unless he is quick.

Im sure clubs knowingly back end contracts with offloading in mind just as much as players on front ended contracts seem to want out later in their contracts. Often more to these trades than we are told

I dont have a problem with that. they are being compensated fairly due to their ladder position and what their new home wants to pay, i dont care if the AFL are cooking the books to get the Eagles Pick 2 or North Pick 3 its better than giving draft concessions

Clubs can’t just get rid of players without having to pay them out. Like Steven May they can say after next year, a year you won’t be playing much AFL, we won’t be offering a new contract so if a team is willing to give you more years we won’t stand in your way.
Grundy wanted to be first ruck which wasn’t going to happen at Melbourne
Treloar wanted more mid time that he wasn’t getting at Collingwood

I never said anything about clubs getting rid of players and not paying them.
Grundy was offloaded by Collingwood with at least 4 years to run to Melbourne before joining Sydney for more opportunity.
Treloar never wanted to leave Pies.
Collingwood have only just finished paying a % of their salaries this year.
Melbourne would be happy to offload Oliver.
So i dont think its all one way, if a club wants you gone in contract they will get rid of you.
Ugle-Hagan will be gone with a year to run.
