Getting the opportunity to be part of the Futures game yesterday morning, fantastic experience, but more importantly footy is over and Im looking forward to a good long break with no commitments in 2026 for more golf, travel and to see my lads play.

Was having trouble with my weight when I was with my GF, I like to imtermittent fast and she prepared heavy dishes in the evening and we dined a fair bit.

I got back from Bali pretty annoyed with myself as I hit 96kg and knew it was gonna be a struggle to reel it back in, my first goal was to get under 90.

Although I've been a bit crook for 3 weeks now so it's hindered going to the gym or getting up at 4:30am to go for a run/walk I've managed to be pretty stringent with my eating and drinking, not great but reasonably good (it makes it hard when I crank the smoker ever Sunday).

Clocked in at 90.1 this morning, gives me great incentive heading into the weekend, if I drink beer and eat crap then I have more work to do, if I exercise, limit myself to a few gins with soda water and sugar free mixers I should be well on my way to my next goal.

Continuing to trend in the right direction, down to 89 now without making too much effort, still need to stop eating the cheese slices straight out of the fridge when I'm peckish and we have lollie and chocolate jars at work that are filled up daily, when they load it up with Turkish delights and Twirl's it takes some will power to avoid.

I've upped my exercise this week so it will be interesting to see the next weigh in, I'm aiming at hitting 85 next, no time limit set, I'm not going to bust my nut trying, I still need to live and enjoy my life.

Continued the trend to finish the month, worked and ate moderately hard to come in at 86.1 after starting the journey at 96.8. Had to buy a new belt and I'm fitting into work pants that I never got to wear not long after starting here two years ago.

Clocking up 15-20K steps a day, generally at a fast pace or a jog, doing my 6km circuit most nights and still doing a 20-30 minute lap around the suburb during work hours.

I'm resting the smoker and beers for a few weeks to give it a red hot crack from here.

Did my first Parkrun ever on Saturday and then had another, longer run the next day. I forgot how hard it is to run distance in the heat and humidity. I don’t die, so I rate that also.

My flight history up there has been kinda weird, I've experienced turbulence every time I've flown to Brisbane, once quite eeire, never had it travelling to the Gold Coast, probz 3 & 5 times going there respectively.

Local SA footy’s unsung heroes revealed
Local SA footy owes its success to dedicated individuals who keep clubs and competitions running. From coaches and officials to beloved volunteers, these unsung heroes ensure the community game continues to thrive.

While local SA footy is filled with talented players who produce top drawer performances each week, a lot of the success of clubs and competitions is also owed to the dedicated individuals behind the scenes.

Whether it’s a coach who leads multiple junior or senior sides, a member of a club or league committee, or a passionate volunteer who does whatever needs taking care of, these individuals are integral to keeping their clubs and competitions viable.

“Volunteers are the backbone of a footy club,” Salisbury North stalwart Damien McBride said.

“They’re so important, they put in so much effort to keep clubs going.”

McBride, who has been part of Salisbury North for 1989 and racked up 428 games as a senior player, has put countless hours towards doing jobs around the club and leading the youth.

Also a junior coach for the past 15 years, the Eagles favourite is admired at the place he calls his second home.

“Guys like him are the glue that keeps football clubs together,” A Grade playing-coach Luke Habel said.

“He does absolutely everything.”

“As soon as I walked in the doors I fell in love with the footy club and the people and community,” McBride added.

“It’s a great family club and we’re welcoming to anyone.

With the help of clubs and competitions, we’ve named the unsung heroes who, like McBride, put countless hours of their time into keeping the community game thriving.

From coaches and officials to beloved volunteers, here is our list.

DAMIEN ANGOVE
(Port District)

Former Sydney, Port Adelaide and Port District player Damien ‘Dangers’ Angove has made a huge contribution to his local club in a number of ways.

Now working as the club’s football/list manager, Angove also holds a spot on the committee, is an occasional runner for the A Grade, does club maintenance and line marking, assists with merchandise and coaches two Under 17.5 boys sides.

Angove is one of the most valued members of the club and one of its most important workers behind the scenes.

CHRIS ASTON
(Glenunga)

Not usually one to seek the limelight, Aston has done a power of work behind the scenes at Glenunga to make sure the club runs smoothly.

Currently senior football director at the Rams, Aston also fills a number of big or small roles when needed around the club and coaches an U14 boys side.

MATT BEDGEGOOD
(Ingle Farm)

One of the most important figures at Ingle Farm, Bedgegood has been chairman, C Grade coach, Auskick coordinator and U8s coach at the Bulldogs.

He has been instrumental in the club’s growth and success and has also been known to participate in games when called upon.

DENISE FRAHN
(River Murray Football League)

A hardworking volunteer who has dedicated years of time to one of SA’s stronger country competitions, Frahn’s impact on the RMFL cannot be understated.

Battling breast cancer, Frahn has worked tirelessly to almost single-handedly run RMFL TV coverage of the competition’s games each week, a service which supplies 40 per cent of the league’s revenue.

SUZY GRAHAM
(West Augusta)

A Spencer Gulf Football League and West Augusta Football Club volunteer for over a decade.

Graham has spent time in several roles at West Augusta and recently joined the Port Augusta junior committee, playing a pivotal role in the establishment of the Port Augusta female footy program, giving at least 75 young girls the opportunity to continue their footy careers.

BEAU GREEN
(Salisbury North)

Junior sports director at Salisbury North, Green has been heavily involved in a number areas for the Hawks.

While he has been an important figure for the junior program, Green has also done anything from recording stats and operating the scoreboard to manning the barbecue.

TONY HUGHES
(Tailem Bend)

Currently the vice president at Tailem Bend, Hughes has been involved with the Eagles for decades and has held almost every role.

Previously president for five years, Hughes also now works as assistant treasurer, bar manager, assists with sponsorship and oval line marking, umpires juniors every week and also organises club raffles.

JACINTA HUXTABLE
(Crystal Brook)

Secretary for Crystal Brook for a long period of time, Huxtable has had a big impact on footy in the Mid North.

In addition to filling a number of roles at the Roosters, she is the co-founder of the Mid North Women’s Football League and has had a major hand in ensuring women in the area have the opportunity to play.

TERRY JULIAN
(Macclesfield)

One of Macclesfield’s longest serving volunteers, Blood and Tars life member Terry Julian is one of the most valued and respected members of his club.

Working mainly as the club’s bar manager this year, Julian is the first to put his hand up when something needs doing and is one of Macclesfield’s most passionate supporters in all age groups.

MICHAEL KEMPE
(Coorong Cats)

The president of the Coorong Cats, Kempe has been one of the most important figures one of the River Murray FL’s newest clubs.

Originally from Tintinara, Kempe has done a mountain of work to get the Cats up and running for the past three seasons and has helped to build Coorong into a powerhouse in the RMFL.

He was instrumental in getting the whole club to work together, firstly with the footy program and recently with a reinvigorated netball program.

SCOTT LEVERINGTON
(South Whyalla)

A hard-working volunteer for South Whyalla for decades and a Whyalla Football League delegate, Leverington has taken on countless jobs for his club and league.

He has also been a key contributor to the formation of the WFL women’s competition, first helping to establish a working group in early 2023 and launching the competition later that year, and recently seeing the league grow to a seven-team competition.

VICKI LINES
(Rostrevor OC)

Currently the head trainer at ROCS, Lines has been involved at the club for 20 years.

One of the club’s most popular and hard-working members, she often puts her hand up for any job that needs doing and goes out of her way to ensure everything runs smoothly with the players and within the club.

DAMIEN MCBRIDE
(Salisbury North)

With over 400 senior games under his belt, Damien ‘Macca’ McBride has also had a significant impact on the Salisbury North Football Club as a coach and volunteer for a number of years.

An assistant coach for the Hawks’ A Grade in 2022 and 2023, McBride has also spent the past five years coaching the B Grade and the last 15 years coaching junior football as well as putting his hand up for a number of other jobs around the club.

JAMIE MORGAN
(Plympton)

Morgan currently holds both the president and junior football director positions at Plympton and has been a key driver for new clubrooms.

Morgan has been president of the Metro South Junior Football League, was a major part of the Bulldogs winning 2022 SANFL Juniors club of the year and has been recognised for his dedication to the growth of the game in the south-west of Adelaide.

DAVID PINK
(Kingston)

The head trainer at Kingston, one of the South East’s most improved clubs this year, David ‘Ginge’ Pink is a club favourite.

Recognised by fellow members as one of the most selfless people at the club, Pink fills a number of roles and takes on a number of jobs to ensure the Saints keep marching.

ADAM SALMON
(South Gambier)

A 300-game player in the South East, Salmon has done a mountain of work for his local club and competition.

He currently fills roles of club junior president, league junior president and as an Auskick coordinator.

Salmon has been a driving force behind a number of junior footy initiatives in the region.

GARY SCOTT
(Golden Grove)

A longtime volunteer at Golden Grove, Scott has dedicated countless hours to the Kookaburras.

Also junior footy director at the club, Scott oversees anything and everything junior footy related and has had a huge contribution to one of the strongest junior programs in the state.

MICHAEL SICILIANO
(Prince Alfred OC)

A 300-game player and Life Member of the Old Reds, Siciliano is one of the club’s most respected members.

Off of the footy field, Siciliano has been one of the most important people at PAOC, serving as treasurer, vice chairman, chairman (the club’s longest serving), committee member and doing any other jobs which need taking care of around the club.

RON REDFORD
(Western Eyre Football League)

President of the Western Eyre FL since 2008, Redford has had a significant involvement in community football for a long period of time and has been an influential figure in EP footy over a number of years.

A strong supporter and advocate for football across the EP, Redford has devoted his time to the local competition as well as the Mortlock Shield and will be a key figure in how the future of the game in the region is shaped.

STEPHEN YOUNG
(Athelstone)

Young has been the president of the Athelstone Football Club since 2002 and is also an Adelaide Footy League executive committee member.

He has overseen the club’s growth on the field during his tenure, while also being instrumental in a strong juniors and women’s program as well as the Max Amber Sportsfield redevelopment.
