Re: Things that give you the sh1ts
Heard on AA a few weeks back that the Advertiser no longer gets delivered to Quorn. This I thought is going to pose problems for the Friday and Saturday form guides while up there. A mate is going to head to Port Augusta on Friday for work and he'll grab some papers while he's there. Phew.
But taking away my completely selfish thoughts how shit is that for the local community? You see people wandering down to the shops in the little towns to grab the paper, have a yarn and for older people in country towns it might be their only contact with people for the day. They can check in on each other, you can imagine if Barb didn't show up to get the paper Mary would check in to make sure she was ok.
Anywho, rang the newsagent up there, told him about the Augusta run and asked if he wanted any brought back. Long story short he reckons it would cause a riot if some people got one and others didn't so thank for the thought but no need. He then tells me by this time next year Port Augusta, Mt Gambier etc won't be getting the paper then either.
What will the older people in country towns do? Most of them wouldn't have the tech to read the paper on their phone and who sits down on the weekend with a cuppa and their phone over their cuppa and a paper?
Shit I reckon.

Re: Things that give you the sh1ts
I’m staggered newspapers, magazines, etc are even printed at all these days, let alone trucked to all corners of the State.
Hear what you’re saying, but it's a massive waste of resources to print and deliver, only to be (barely) relevant for a day before going in the rubbish or recycling.
For better or for worse, the world has moved on.

My old cheese still gests the Saturday Advertiser and Sunday Mail delivered, I like it as I'll go do their crosswords and it gives me wrapping for my potato peel.dedja wrote:I’m staggered newspapers, magazines, etc are even printed at all these days, let alone trucked to all corners of the State.

Back in the day you know you've had a big Saturday night when you're grabbing a Sunday Mail with your Iced Coffee and hot dog before heading to the taxi stand in the city.

Re: Things that give you the sh1ts
My Grandma killed it for me, if we ever stayed there it was mushy canned peas for dinner, weet-bix with just hot water for breakfast. My brother and I used to cry when mum announced we were staying there for dinner. I guess nan was never gonna lift her cook game after that.dedja wrote:… topped with sauce.Lightning McQueen wrote:I couldn't think of anything worse than ruining a perfect pie with a heap of canned mushy peas.dedja wrote:
