The thing is, the rules come from the top, meaning slings & dangerous tackles are illegal and should be penailsed via a free kick.
Some of these umps are from a bygone era when this sort of tackle was a skill. It's just not in the laws of the game any more, same as you can't bump high anymore.
Times change, umpires need to as well.

Definite sling that should have been addressed, it probably would've stopped all the bullshit that went on for the next couple of minutes.

For the record no one is complaining about the first one I posted, we found it quite funny tbh, just wondered what others thoughts were and where the league is at with them as I usually only get 2 a couple of Lockleys games every year.

I think that for any time a player just grabs the jumper and there is a 2nd action, its a sling and you probably see it more in the lower grades as they may not have been taught how to tackle properly.

Congratulations Digby, excellent effort on the tricky Brahma Lodge Oval, you must be tickled shitless.

Can't remember the last time we beat Brahma away. Would be a decade plus.

We made some tweaks and changes here and there with off field stuff which means we're sustainable without angel sponsors for the first time in a long time. Make sure you buy heaps from the canteen when you visit!

The thing I love most this year was how we made a plan to target old school Mitchell Park people. Sons of Rusby, McDonnell, Weekley, Potuzynski all playing. A few more to come hopefully. With no juniors, tiny budgets and lots of nearby clubs in stronger positions, it's perhaps our only competitive advantage in recruitment.

Still, we're 5th in D7. We've got a long long long way to go, we're under no pretence of understanding where we are at.

Any plans for juniors?

From an outsider looking in you have plenty of youth compered to other teams, and that played a role in the last quarter on Sat with some young quick legs.

They definitely need to start the juniors again. It will be a struggle to get them from clubs like Marion, Brighton, Edwardstown, CLG etc but need to start somewhere.

Juniors are not a short-term goal at this stage as we simply don't have the numbers from a volunteers or off field infrastructure perspective.

Our strategy is more about building the club back up, attracting more people getting more help, getting the fundamentals right and then starting to add on from there. We'd be looking at starting Juniors, maybe in 3 to 5 years perhaps.

This is a point of contention though and I know many at the club disagree with me.

I don't think it's as easy as just deciding to have juniors - starting from scratch requires a lot of energy and commitment.. as you pointed out, need to attract more people, get the fundamentals right and build a sound foundation first.. otherwise the juniors just falls over in a year or two and you're back to square one.

Sounds like you have a pretty good short / mid term plan and know what you want to achieve.

Not sure that's always the case (especially for the key roles such as coaches) especially if they are parents that don't have a preexisting affiliation with the club. Obviously, you will get some help but not an easy task.

Dont disagree about the governance and stuff. I should have clarified more the key roles including (coaches, junior football directors, groundset up ect) vs trying to find one off goal umpires, one off boundary umpire each weekend which is much easier.

Bit of an odd one but at most country clubs around our area both junior and seniors are presented with a guernsey at the start of the year. They then take it home each week, wash it ect. Obviously we have few spare ones floating around but yeah they take responsibility of their guernsey and then return it at the end of the last game.
