AFL Round 18

Talk on the national game

Not a footy action? He was directly contesting the ball!?

Xerri has a split second to react, is a tall man who is at his highest point for the ruck contest and then trying to come down to tackle. Probably gets him across the chest with much less impact if Salem doesn't push Simpkin into Sparrow's back. The contact is with Xerri's forearm not even his fist. This happens multiple times in games across every weekend without ending high or with someone knocked out, it is an unfortunate part of contact sport that can happen and to be honest the AFL have incentivised lowering your body in the forward lines by rewarding it with a shot at goal. I am surprised it doesn't happen more. If it doesn't catch Sparrow exactly how it does then he gets a free and no one thinks twice about it.

It is another unfortunate accident that in this day results in a suspension because they will argue he could have chosen not to tackle. The bullshit with this is they have let Ed Richards elbow someone in the head resulting in a concussion, he didn't have to lift his elbow so why isn't he rubbed out? They have let Hugh Jackman knee Zorko* in the ribs. They are going to let Reid kick Boak in the leg trying to trip him and get away with a fine.

All these dog acts that have no real consequences yet hard play that goes a little bit wrong is penalised harshly despite it never being something that will reduce it happening because they are accidents. Reid has been fined 6 times FFS, clearly fines aren't a deterrent. He gets him in the right spot and Boak ends his career going off on a stretcher with a broken leg.

More niggly crap than ever is in the game because players know they can get away with it.

*maybe gets a pass for this

AFL has been trying to stamp out actions that can cause concussion. These actions will get cited everytime.

Then answer the earlier question how Ed Richards had no case to answer?

You understand you can lay a tackle without looking directly at the ball and that laying a tackle is contesting the ball right?

We're all missing the biggest issue of the round

The w@nk-stains on the ar5ehole of humanity who sent the vile messages to Burgoyne and Wanganeen-Milera because their multis didn't get up. https://www.abc.net.au/news/2025-07-14/afl-racist-abuse-condemned-on-wanganeen-milera-burgoyne/105529068

Hope they are identifed, charged and dealt with harshly

The w@nker who sent the message to Commisioner Stevens has a special place reserved in hell for him too. https://www.abc.net.au/news/2025-07-14/man-sentenced-for-offensive-email-to-sa-police-commissioner/105528786
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Burgoyne considering going to the police with this. The statement the club put out yesterday was good as well calling for the government to step in (sentance below i am referring to). 'Burner' accounts are way too easy to make which allows idiots to do this kind of thing regularly with no consequences.

Port Adelaide also calls for Governments to demand accountability from social media organisations. Platforms need to take accountability and action against these abusers.

Burner account or not, if authorities wanted to they could still identify the person by IP address and phone used, not sure why they don't. Catch someone and make it public and Im sure this crap will reduce significantly.

Is the issue SM companies don't need to hand this information over to governments?

Exactly what the Vic police did with the Montreal Harrell NBL case. That was an anonymous account

Yes, they could but unfortunately it’s not that simple and can require significant resources and effort. There’s a lot more info than the IP address that can be traced, which in it’s own doesn’t help much.

It’s like when you report your car stolen, the police don’t usually allocate resources to find it, rather they will let you know if someone has found or reported the location.

If they want to do it, or there is enough pressure applied, they can do it. There is a lot of talk about racism but little action, something like this would be a significant help in eradicating this and showing support to the victims.

Dont do anything and the victims feel helpless, unsupported and it probably gets worse unfortunately.

Network tracing will help identify the specific device that was allegedly used. Then you have to find the device, identify a suspect and then prove that the suspect was in possession of the device at the time of the alleged offence, and then that they used that specific social media app on the device, etc, etc. Yes, it’s possible, but it’s a LOT of effort.

Don’t disagree with your sentiment though.
