Wouldn't be much different in coin, that's why the clubs have been all over the AFL to lift the soft cap. Assistants are in the $140-160k range for most clubs. SANFL coaches wouldn't be far behind ( Godden was on more at the Eagles 6 or so years ago )
That is way too low for AFL assistant. You'd think they are doing 60-70 hours a week.

There's a real concern current day players who earn the $500-600k mark with coaching aspirations may look to other positions post playing career because the apprenticeship served as an assistant on 1/3 or less of their previous salary doesn't look so attractive. Not with job security being as fickle as it is.

Yes $150k p.a. for 38 hour week is good, but work out the $ per hour when the assistants work 7 days a week and away from home every second weekend though. Does not compute.

$180K Plus free travel meals and accommodation. I'd take it.

How have any of them been there for so long...being so (mathematically) close to a GF I guess makes clubs hesitant to change.
Only Ken & Chad have been there for a fair while coaching wise. Rest of them are 4 seasons max.

Chris Davies (joined prior to the 2015 season) is the most baffling long-term football department tenure for mine (I acknowledge it's a very different role to coaching).
At least Kenny can point to the 2013 and 2014 seasons as containing signs of significant improvement and a measure of post-season success.

The older ones with premiership success was over 20 years ago at the same club. Where is the outside influence from modern successful clubs, a Geelong, Richmond or Hawthorn type person. Even a Sydney assistant might get them from a prelim to a Grannie
Obviously they are paying way under the soft cap unless Carr is taking most of it

I must say, I kinda thought the same thing when I seen that list.
It's the case for most clubs. Like we've mentioned before, where is the incentive for highly rated former players to be assistants when they are only paid around 180k for such long hours.

Yep it’s why the Hodges, Riewoldt, Jono Browns, Jordan Lewis, etc who were great players and leaders went into the media instead of assistant coaching roles

Think you will find 90% (maybe more) of Port supporters want people from outside of the club to enter into some of those assistant roles. As it's been mentioned though, it isn't particularly easy for a non-Vic club to entice assistants from Victoria with the $$ on offer, especially to a team where the HC position would be safe for at least a few years pending disastarous results so there isn't a carrot to dangle in front of them of a possible HC gig.

Even then, people will use this as an excuse. Seen it at Essendon time and time again, the only thing that shuts people up is premierships.
