The last time I wrote to our members was to lay out the new recruiting regulations provided by SANFL to PAFC and AFC. Let’s say the response back to this CEO wasn’t too flattering, but in this job, one of the pre-requisites is having thick skin! I’ve always thought providing as much information to members was very important, even if it was news that would be controversial or potentially not supported by our members. Being on the large working group for that process was interesting, and for those who felt like I’d abandoned them, no I didn’t support the concessions handed to the AFL Clubs, our club’s stance was a long way removed from the final concessions offered. But, enough of that, we move on and get going again for 2025!

Where was that posted?
It was in an email sent out to all CDFC members yesterday, from Meggsy.

I fear that Jezz will be lost to the SANFL if Port cut him,
he'll get paid a tonne more playing with friends at Tanunda than he will be paid at Central,
he's tried the AFL and he'll finally accept that he'll never be a star (cue Kevin Johnson)
Would be sad if he’s lost to the SANFL, but like a few others, he has to balance a low paying sporting career vs earning enough to get by, and how much commitment it takes to keep playing at the highest level.

It's been a little while since I've had some insider knowledge of SANFL clubs, but how much would a top player be getting per year?

Ask Dave from Alberton, he’s the self proclaimed expert on salaries.

With a bit of luck, the Bays narrow defeat of the Crows yesterday keeps the AFL clubs at bay for another year.
There have been some incredible efforts by clubs in finals to beat these sides since they were admitted as AFL teams in the comp (apologies in advance if I’ve missed or got any wrong):
Port
2014 GF - Norwood by 4
2017 GF - Sturt by 1
2019 GF - Bays by 28
Crows
2016 Prelim - Sturt by 35
2019 Prelim - Bays by 27
2022 2nd Semi - North by 10
2022 Prelim - Legs by 11
2023 2nd-Semi - Bays by 32
2023 Prelim - Sturt by 17
2025 Qualifying - Bays by 1
So thankful that the Bays haven't lost to any of them during this period … how long can we hold them out?
I thought by now you lot would have realised you're playing a side full of fringe/never played AFL players and top ups from low grade ammos not regular AFL players.
MW - not sure what it was but it was either 14 of the crom players had played AFL this year or 14 on the AFL list.
Don't underestimate the resources the youngsters / fringe AFL and low grade ammo players have at their disposal, i.e facilities, coaches', backroom staff.
I am sure Westies players would love to train at West Lakes and Thebby when it is open.
