He isn’t the victim in this circumstance however by the sounds of it the family have been victimized for years, or that’s how they feel.

Nothing wrong with AE showing a bit of compassion in thinking about Willie and what is best for him. He does need to take some time away and get some help.

I get what you’re saying but it’s 2 different things here.
We need to seperate them

He needs time away from the game and most importantly he needs professional help from outside the footy club and industry, if he simply has a couple of weeks off then it will happen again.

He needs to come back when he has his head right for his own well being and can be an asset to the team and the club, not to mention those that look up to him.

It seems a fork in a road moment right now, he could have another 4+ years of AFL footy if he can overcome this bump.

As for the AFL leadership, they seem to just stand behind press releases, when was the last time we saw them stand up and speak about the issue and answer questions? Whether you liked Gil or not, he wasn't afraid of getting on the front foot via the media and answering the tough questions, you may not agree with it but at least you heard it first hand.

Absolutely, the moment Dillbags uttered that the umpiring had never been better last year, I lost all hope with the league.

They hide behind technicalities and inane statements, there's not one strong voice amongst the lot of them. Imagine this mob trying to run a season during the Covid era...

AFL saying Geelong never reported it to them whereas Andrew Mackie is saying they did. Seriously this is getting pathetic by the AFL if it wasnt already.

Accidental tackle 3 weeks, threaten a player off field is nothing to see here.

The Dill and Laura Kane are making Old Gil look like a sensational leader. The AFL are asleep at the wheel.

This is the worry for me, there would be some "mates" in Darwin that absolutely idolise Willie and if they have the IQ of Willie or less this is a strong chance of happening, flying the flag for Willie. Maybe this is the reason that he hasnt been sanctioned, they dont want to inflame the situation? Could it be that Wilie and Port have agreed that he misses their next game vs the Bulldogs?
Not sure there could be a lower IQ person than someone that puts sports drink in as his urine.

Well his West Coat career was littered with failed drug tests, trying to submit someone else’s urine twice (which he was suspended for) and an arrest and conviction for possession with intent to supply whilst on that suspension.

The AFL’s drug policy wears a lot of the blame here.

So a couple of weeks away from the game is not going to change anything with Willie really...

He has been afforded all the help anyone could possibly ask for to support him through troubles of his own making, but has literally pissed it all up a wall.

When he was at Glenelg, the club made a special effort to support him and his family.

I don’t know what happened to the shy, well mannered and impressive young man who walked out the door at the Bay to chase his dream, but a lot of it isn’t good.

I wonder if the AFL will increase security for the players in the NT this week both on and off the ground.

Only need one fool to cause an issue, even if not in anyway linked to Willie, for him and his actions to be blamed.

They will but they wont advertise or mention that in the media because it will be a bad look and maybe interpreted the wrong way.

This almost makes you yearn for the days when a lippy small forward was dealt with rather quickly by a no-nonsense defender, justice on the fly, frontier-style, during the game.

I guess when the repercussions aren't felt, or are done via wet lettuce leaf, it leaves people to operate as they see fit, with zero afterthought.

That's my boomer moment for that day...

Apparently the AFL is reopening the case against Rioli to investigate other transgressions. Word is that they’re not happy Jan.

Let’s see if they get anything other than a wet lettuce out.

Does this week effect Port in a negative way or galvanize the group?

Geelong Twitter account :

Club statement | In regards to a report on Tuesday night relating to an incident during the Geelong v Port Adelaide game in Round 9 2024... 1/2

...The Club can confirm the matter was not raised with the AFL. The Club spoke directly with Port Adelaide after the match and considered the matter dealt with.

So Port keep closing the matter with no actions or are they doing anything with Willie at club level to stop this from happening?
I see Koch has come out and loosely blamed racism on Willies behaviour and that abuse on field should not be treated the same as off field.
