It’s not the SANFLs fault we are a Basket Case.
It is years of Poor Management from those supposedly running the club.
Also our licensed club struggles to make money, our membership base is dwindling and our facilities are a disgrace!
It is laughable that in 2025, a SANFL club has buildings in the ground that are condemned.
What an absolute joke.
Just f#*!in close the place down and be done with it!

Should never have gotten to the point that SANFL needed to step in.Booney wrote:They've been running the show for about 4 years, they've got their finger prints all over it.Wolf Pack wrote:It’s not the SANFLs fault we are a Basket Case.
The only thing that will save West is a massive injection of funds to upgrade the facility not just the grounds/stands but the bar/bistro. Only then it might attract some talent. I cannot see the SANFL/state govt doing that. Sadly there is no future for this club.

Are the sanfl just buying time to see what the AFL reserves sides do in the near future before making any decisions with West?MW wrote:Should never have gotten to the point that SANFL needed to step in.Booney wrote:They've been running the show for about 4 years, they've got their finger prints all over it.Wolf Pack wrote:It’s not the SANFLs fault we are a Basket Case.

Expectation and results run in a cycle.
- The team is rubbish. You go expecting to lose and the team loses. Meh. Had a day in the sun, saw mates, had a carry on. All good.
- The team starts to win a few games. You go expecting to lose and the team wins - hooray! An unexpected bonus.
- The team is now good. You go expecting to win and they win. How's the serenity?
- The team has just jumped the shark. You go expecting to win and they lose. That f***ing sucks.

David Shipway ‘advising’ the board…..
New CEO is a former SANFL finance guy
I’m not sure how Alison Surjan got involved but has now been elevated to President with a skeleton board.

Hate saying it but almost impossible to see how West Adelaide can survive in its current form.
Too many SANFL sides west of the city never mind the lure of having a AFL clubs heartland only 15-20 minutes down the road.
Even if West start making the finals again what's the reality, attendances increase from 600-1000 and a 100 more members. Hardly game changing.
Their only hope for survival is finding a thriving property/business/pokie parlour based in a great location somewhere in SA which won't have any direct and obvious association with the club.
The other alternative is to be the first to make the move and maybe consider a move to a place like Mt Barker and become the Mt Barker Bloods in the black and red. Obviously lose a massive part of their identity but at least it would breathe life into them for another 5-10 years with a town like that having a buzz from having regular SANFL in a ready to go facility.
Or worst case do they absorb themselves into the SAAFL and at least exist in a similar way to how Fitzroy (victoria) do.

Would be interesting to how it would work.MW wrote:I have heard rumours about Mt Barker move already.
Would Mt Barker get around a relocated West Adelaide in the form of a Mt Barker Bloods or do they need to go full American franchise style and completely forgo any association with the bloods and black and red so the Mt Barker region embraces 'their new team' At that point though do west barely exist.

Do Mt Barker have a football team? I think the idea is for them to have a team in the SANFL, and then the facility would actually get used and have a permanent tennant.amber_fluid wrote:Why would the Mt Barker people support West just coz they relocate?

Re: RD 4 Sturt vs West Thomas Farms Oval Sunday 2:10PM
The SANFL has an ugly problem here.
West are on their knees and South are not going great either.
The AFL is not entertaining an AFL reserves comp and in any case, the SANFL keep kowtowing to them to keep the AFL sides in their comp.
… but if they were to leave
and West fold Darwinism style
then we’re down to 7 clubs, with a teetering South.
Despite the couple of conspiracy theorists here, the SANFL have had no choice but to intervene, but the simple fact is that the venue side of the club doesn’t make any money, and without that it’s impossible to survive.
