Re: 2025 Adelaide Footy League - Division 2
My Div 2 GF for 2025
Thoughts behind this?
Athelstone, Brighton, Goodwood, Finders Park might have something to say about that
Yep fair question. For the record the 6 teams you have listed are my top 6 but putting that out there in January will only bite me on the ass.
Henley - Undefeated season and as dominant as you could want to be in a Div 3 comp winning all 3 GF's very comfortably.
They have added some more talent. 7 to be exact. They continue to get an influx of WAFC players and the big in for me is Beuchner who is a big boy from the Ponderosa to add to their embarrassment of riches. A former Div 1 Premier and they look primed to have a proper crack at it in 2025.
TTG - At times very good last year and as per recent years in the mix for div 1 finals last year until injuries hit. They don't tend to spend too much time in div 2 and again a recent enough Div 1 Premiership winner knows what need to be done. Big Tickets will give first use and their new look mifdfield will have grown together to become better in 2025.
2 very big ins - Dylan Weaver from Centrals and some bloke called McKay who apparently goes alright.
Forums were quiet so i thought I'd throw up my prediction. Nothing is certain in pre-season but that's where i think it might land in September.l
Henley were very good last year and they had to. It’s a massive jump from Div 3 to 2 so Henley had to improve their list. Some big ins.
From what I have heard both Broadbents won’t be playing this year. Matt has a role at North I believe and Tim may pull boots on in the C’s
My only concern with Henley is they don’t have a real dominant ruckman and against the better Div 2 sides that may go against them. Defensively they will be elite. Question marks over their mids and fwds. They will be around the mark but my tip would be Flinders Park v TTG
Where did you see Henley and Lockleys compared to the 2 teams that came up from Div 3 last season (Flinders Park and Modbury) ?
As both those teams didn't really recruit and both played finals in Div2 first year up.

I thought Flinders Park were exceptional in the second half of the year to win the flag in ‘23. However with a 38 year old ruckman in Stearne I thought they would have struggled. The way they move the footy is elite and very drilled side
Modbury had massive injury troubles last year.
Henleys depth is ridiculous and they will be very good this year. However every side will improve. Flinders picking up Luke Thompson is huge.
Div 2 will be interesting to watch this year. I’ll bring the popcorn

Put your money on Athelstone this year to win the flag.
They are a stacked side, are deep, and well coached.

Ha ha! I’ve only met him briefly, but seems like a good lad.
The talk from many around the club (players and members) is that they all like him and what he brings.

They were in the running for Nuriootpa zone rep Jack Henke but don't know if he signed there or not

Re: 2025 Adelaide Footy League - Division 2
Not a good day for us Wenchy. Some injuries to key forwards in the trials saw us go in with a makeshift forward set up. Those lads will be back for R2 along with a couple of others. I'm also agreeing with some of the Athelstone hype mentioned above. It seemed we were still playing D1 with the quality they had on the park. So for our sake I'm hoping we have played the D2 benchmark on their home deck in R1. Otis Carthy was transferred to CMS back in November. He has family ties to one of those towns. At least our supporters were well behaved on Saturday. I had a look at some of the vision from the D2 western derby and it took me back to our early years in the SFL.

Didn't Carthy retire due to head knocks last year, or am I getting mixed up with someone else?

That was our 2020 D1 medal winner and multiple D1 Team of the Year recipient - Nigel Osborn. He was forced to retire after 3 or 4 games into the 2024 season due to concussion issues.

Didnt they say on Bounce when they aired it that it was Henley's president carrying on?

Yeh heard they don't know him. Think it was bit of a set up. No Henley gear on, just happens to be right next to the camera and walks in front of it. All a bit sus really (not that Henley dont have feral supporters like most clubs).

Re: 2025 Adelaide Footy League - Division 2
Not saying it’s ‘acceptable’, but there have been very few clubs I’ve played at where I haven’t copped plenty from the sidelines while playing.
Most perplexing was always the St Peter’s crowd throwing barbs at players while drinking around their sideline wine bar in their polo tops. In respect to them they didn’t get too personal unlike many other club’s faithful. I just don’t think too many clubs can sit in their ivory tower on the issue.
