We went from 24 public servants to 16 under Tempo running one department. The first thing the Union did was want to fight for more money.
Go ahead, I said, then we'll be doing this with 14 people. Holdens died around the same time.
Union. Power.

There was one bloke there when I started who wasn't allowed to pick up anything over 3kg. He would have someone weigh the 3kg Aus Post satchels just in case. I shit you not he sat in a lunch room from 7am to 3pm other than doing satchel deliveries.
He also had 11% super and could access up to 50% salary sacrifice.
Legislation has been rushed through parliament giving the state government support to act on its debts related to GFG alliance, owner of the Whyalla Steelworks.
Standing orders were suspended for the legislation to now be passed in both the lower and upper house.

He's certainly put Whyalla and the people that live there at the top of his list of priorities and good on him as there's too much at stake to let someone continue down the path Gupta had the steelworks on, one of no return.

No doubt. One thing he's shown is he acts quickly which is rare for a politician
And that's exactly why he'll be premier until he no longer wants the job. He's a deal maker and very transparent. He's also not ego driven and has no problem engaging people cleverer than him.
This would've been eating him away every day for the last 12 or so months.
This is a great outcome for Whyalla but the state as a whole.
Regardless of whether you are red, blue or teal this bloke us the real deal.
He’s previously stated that he’s not interested in Federal politics.
Early indications are that, as suspected, GFG have been bleeding the Whyalla Steelworks dry of funds to prop up Gupta’s other businesses.
What hasn’t been explicitly highlighted in the last few days is that of the $300M+ GFG owes creditors of the Whyalla Steelworks, a large chunk of that is ‘funny money’ between GFG and associated companies, like SIMEC mining, Whyalla Port and Tahmoor Coal Colliery.
Hopefully KM will see through this and put those GFG Group companies last in the creditor queue, plus the legislation change today puts the State Govt at the top of the creditor list, so this should enable them to assist the smaller creditors who would normally get screwed by the Administrator.
With a bit of luck, this is the domino required to sink Gupta globally. The Brits are keen to get him as well.
Obviously, the best outcome is that all the non-Gupta entities get paid, the workers can continue to run the steelworks whilst being paid, and KM find a new owner.

Km have been down this road before so I don't think they're going to fooled. The govt know something that they aren't willing to share at this point.
Mali was asked if the govt was the biggest creditor. His answer was no. The look on his face told me we're going to be shocked how much gfg actually owe. Hence the secret meeting with Gupta last week.
I would think it would be very rare where a govt dept can have access to the company books.
Looking forward to hearing the actual profitability.
I don't follow the politics closely and i certainly don't blame Mali for whats going at Whyalla.
BUT does anyone else get the feeling he just rules via localised sportswashing. Using sporting events to transcend politics. Don't get me wrong i absolutely love what sports events have come to SA.
What other areas of his leadership have gone extremely well though...
Like i said i don't follow heaps closely so not saying im right or anything, more just a minor observation in recent times.
The Liberal party as a supposed opposition party is a complete rabble, now led by a complete novice in Tarzia who is way out of his depth and may struggle to win his own seat. There is a good chance the next election will be a landslide to Labor.
There have been 2 by-elections of former Liberal leaders that have both gone to Labor.
Whilst we’re yet to hear the complete details of what happened yesterday and the Govt $2B assistance to be announced today, the response to the Whyalla crisis has been swift and decisive.
Has just announced that the nearly $600M allocated to the Hydrogen plant will instead be used to assist Whyalla.
