If Trav is out wonder if they would give Inglis a thought,

Trav says he’ll be OK.

Ravi Ashwin has announced his retirement, effective immediately.

An under appreciated player 537 wickets and 6 tons with the bat, that's top quality.

537 wickets in 106 Tests at an average of 24.00, plus 6 centuries and 14 fifties at an average of 25.75 is a seriously good Test career.

I've been wondering when he would retire, especially after being left out for Sundar in the first test (along with Jadeja). I know his age and that his form has dipped but how India don't play him as a regular for quite some time now still amazes me, it must be a luxury to just leave out one of the best cricketers of this generation.

You'd think he's the next middle order player in already being in the squad.

Obviously Trav has big issues, Aussie medical staff have come out and stated he has nothing wrong and will be ready to go Boxing day

Yeah 2026

Trav says he is just a bit sore

we should go with
Konstas
Kahwaja
McSweeney
Smith
Head
Carey
Webster
Id even be tempted to find room for Inglis and leave Khawaja out

But The selectors will go with the same top 6

A few thoughts
If not for the weather Australia would more than likely be leading the series 2 - 1
Reality is that it's 1 - 1
And many on here are calling for mass changes
Fact is that the 3 Tests so far have seen pitches and conditions well in favour of the pace bowlers with spinners having very little impact.
On top of conditions being in favour of pace bowling more than batting, Australia are having to deal with Bumrah who will more than likely going down as one of the finest pacemen of all time !
The wash up of it all is that batsmen from BOTH sides are struggling big time with the exception of some cameos
Head with 2 tons has benefited both times coming in after 30 - 40 overs have been taken off the new ball
All other batsmen with the exception of Carey have struggled
Kawahja, McSweeney, Marsh have all failed to make a 50 whilst Labuschagne and Smith both only have the 1 notable score.
Plenty of talk about all those 5 being dropped for various reasons etc with Smiths ton giving him a reprieve for now.
So who to replace them with and will they do better with the series on the line the next 2 Tests?
Aust may or may not be forced to bring in another batsman if Head doesn't come up.
Of the others Marsh appears to be the one especially if not gonna bowl much.
For those saying McSweeney isn't up to it, geez give the guy a break. Couldn't have had a tougher initiation and i'm pretty sure if they had gone with anyone else they wou;dn't have faired much better if any either.
The last thing the selectors need to do is panic and make mass changes tho may be forced to make 1 or 2 anyway.
Again keep in mind if not for the weather Australia would have been 2 - 1 up so not all is as bad as many are making it out to be.

In fairness to those calling for changes the names that are mentioned Labuschagne and Khawaja have been out of form for a little while now and their batting woes aren't related to this series only.

There’s no place for you on this forum JJ, too much common sense in what you post.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Was also interesting to hear in the commentary that Hussey and Haddin were both mentioning they expect Trav to go to the top of the order for the Sri Lanka tour.

They way they were speaking was that it was 'inside knowledge' not just speculation.

Does that mean a Khawaja retirement at the end of this series or McSweeney to go down the order where he is probably better suited.

I recall Ponting making comment re the selection of McSweeney (25 with first class average 37) not as if he is kicking door in , with Konstas not selected in the squad (19 with first class average 42)

I believe the young lad should be a no brainer in squad.

Haddin LOL, he is a shocker to listen to and his calls are often wrong, mainly because he is he most biased Australian commentator and no matter how bad a player is going and/or if they got out in a bad way or if the team has had a terrible session or day he'll somehow put a ridiculously positive spin on it and seems like he can't criticise anything they do. He's on Willow Talk and becomes unbearable to listen to, the show is much better when he's not on it.

Go home for Christmas or hang around the dressing room with Virat. It's a no brainer.
