To me, he still doesn't look fit enough. I don't think being contracted for seven more seasons is going to push him to do extras.
He looks like a player who is "comfortable" and not quite stretching the rubber band to see how much he can get out of himself, this contract isn't going to help.
He's a lazy offseason away from stretching some elastic though, a 6 year extension for someone who I doubt clubs enquired about at trade time seems excessive.

I'll concede Fogarty has taken some time to come good.
I've watched his games pretty closely and wow he hurts some blokes when he competes.
Not sure people take that into account when critiquing his game.
And it's a joy watching him kick drop punts from any angle pretty much gun barrell straight mostly.

He's worth every penny they pay him.
I know Collingwood were interested in him but went with McStay.

Yeah, he's goes at the ball well in the air, yeah, he's a nice kick.

Has bugger all athleticism, looks lost when the ball hits the deck and has the turning circle of the Queen Mary.

Good with the bad, I suppose.

I love Fogarty my favourite player to watch. Like watching a man playing against boys with all the tackles he shrugs off and a great kick as above gun barrel straight.

However not much motor and he looks one bad off-season away from blowing right out sure lock him up for a few years but the next 7 years? I just don't get the logic in that.

There are better players who've been given long term deals and there are also some that I think are much worse. Not too fussed about the length of the deal, I guess the Club is happy to back in him and Thilthorpe to carry the forward line for the next 5 or so years - can't argue with that logic.

Also not too fussed about his body shape, as a fellow 'big hip, big bum guy' I sympathize with the criticism and no doubt he will have to continue to work hard or he will likely blow out.

The interesting body shape for me is young Tyler Welsh... bit wraps but as a 17-18 year old, he looks only a decent Uni summer away from being the right condition for kicking bags in the Country B Grade somewhere. Hope for him he can find the right formula.... but he looks heavy before he starts, and as a young guy, thats concerning.

Yeah young Welshy is gonna get flogged.
Hopefully his body doesn't give in to long term injury trying to catch up.
The lad can play no doubt!

Given he’s been on their radar for several years now, why hasn’t he conditioned himself better?

Maybe they didn’t want him to so he slips down the draft?

He's a key forward so better to be big going in to the system and getting a good conditioning program in to drop some excess body fat
A key forward going in thin and having to put on bulk takes a while (thilthorpe) and they get injured easier.

I'm sure Burgess can't wait to get him in preseason.
He can play so hopefully he survived.

Slightly concerning for sure that his not in peak playing condition, it could indicate his passion towards his fitness and eating habits. I'm guessing his someone who naturally doesn't love the gym or eating with health and wellness in mind. However it could be somewhat deliberate to give him that strength advantage at junior levels and he could possibly still be pretty sharp of the mark. Without seeing fitness results its really hard to tell.

The bloke is still training 3 times a week, i imagine SANFL training is still pretty intense even if his not going at his hardest, so he must be consuming a ton load of calories whether that's deliberate or not who knows.

That said a professional sporting club can get him in shape pretty quickly IF his willing to put in the hard work both on and off field. You could also make a case going with a slightly heavier body is an advantage to going in ultra skinny.

I'm not questioning Tyler's work ethic (and have no idea what its like), just noting that he is a non-typical AFL body shape at 17. Hope he gets it right, I anticipate it might be a battle for lad.

Don't be surprised if Crows don't pick him up - they are really worried about his attitude - loves to party and drinks too much, not good recipe at his age. Do these kids not realise how lucky they are, could be earning $50k per year at Coles if not careful

Theyll take him.
And back Burgess and the system in to get him fit.

However if what you are saying about the partying is true then he's going to hate AFL footy.
