Re: BL&G Football League
How was the massive dive from Zac East in the goal square to basically decide a grand Final. Horrible umpiring decision. East would have to be close to 120kg, no way that puts him down. Great to see Herzick win another flag though and looks like Willaston made the right call after lots of doubters about his appointment

Goodfellow, Barnett and Ryswk have all been at Barossa before.
Dew is a massive loss, Barossa will need a few more than those mentioned to be contenders again.
Trav Schiller wont be around

Re: BL&G Football League
Freeling with their 5 yearly whinge about the strength of the Gawler clubs, and old man Jammo from Angaston joining the fake pile on.
There are short memories around, South were a seniors basket case a few years ago and Willaston just broke a long drought after not having an Auskick program as recently as the 2010s
Maybe the Panthers should head to the Murray Valley league if they want a flag every year right Jammo?

It would be best if the Gawler clubs went to the amateur league or started a comp with AV, Two wells and Virginia.
Southern Saints and RSMU could come back to make it an 8 team Barossa comp.
But if this wasnt to happen then South Gawler should be given 2 seasons to upgrade their facilties or be kicked out. They have done nothing in nearly 40 years to upgrade the changerooms but seem to have plenty of money to buy premierships.

Re: BL&G Football League
Angaston paid overs to lose a Grand Final by 3 points this year. And overs to watch Lachie rip up their paper bag bought team in the 2019 Grand Final.
We paid overs to lose a prelim this year. The absolute dribble that comes out of your mouth makes me glad I never went up the road to play at Angaston Brett.
I'm no genius but I am guessing South aren't in control of their destiny with regards to their facilities for the most-part and this is a council issue, but yes there needs to a plan for them to re-locate/re-develop within the next 5 years. It is sub-par and a blight on the league unfortunately.
Freeling have been crying poor for years, yet are 10 minutes down the road from Gawler and should have no issue with attracting players from the city or even wanting to have their locals hang around if they were to move away. They are an expanding town with increasing numbers., They sealed their own fate for the 2010s when they pissed off all their locals in the Leal era byt playing 10+ imports each week, and then they went and hid under the blankets during COVID and left their locals in the lurch. I suspect this is more a club culture issue, and they are their own worst enemy. Kapunda will bounce back and win a flag well before they ever get near one, even if the town population expands 10-fold.
I dislike the Gawler Clubs as much as anyone but South and Willaston have been starved of success for a long long time with coaches and players coming and going, and they will both go down the ladder again at some-point. Maybe Freeling should have a look at what they are doing, or what Barossa did after being absolute rubbish for years in the late 90s/early 2000s, instead of wanting a particpation medal. If they were to go to the Adelaide Plains they'd beat Hamley and maybe United.
As for Jamo having a sook which is something he is quite good at I might add:
Angaston 17s played in this years GF, and should have played in last years
Have Won 3 Reserves Flags since 2017
Have played in 3 A Grade Grand Finals in the past 15 years. Two of which they lost to us, and Two they probably should have won including the most recent and 2019. Even in 2009 we were down at Half-Time before coming back.

Classic, your rationale that South should depart is based on changerooms you use once a year.
More like a dominant Two Wells with a huge population should come into the league as a former G&DFL club - the Gawler clubs add more to the league than Riverton or Eudunda would, but I guess you’re just after a league where Ango/Nuri/Tanunda wins flags on a 3 year repeating basis

Sounds good to me. The Metro areas should go to the metro league, leave the country footy to the country towns.
Its about more than just football too, the netball comp has become a joke, only the Gawler teams win anything. I wouldnt be surprised if something happens in that regard that will force some sort of change in the next 5 years

It worked out better for us watching you lot get done after sitting pretty at Half Time. Reminiscent of 2009.
I highly doubt it, Bobby Smart and Sammy are just two off the top of my head that have left Angaston to come down the hill. The traffic is generally one-way.
Regardless, you actually look at Towns like Two Wells they aren't actually bigger population wise than the Barossa Towns. Yes it is marked to grow as is Virginia. But I think they would get a rude surprise in the BLG at the moment.
Towns like Freeling will boom once they can sort out their sewage/water supply and the Eastern side of the town is developed as planned, and Kapunda/Hamley Bridge have also been earmarked for large developement. Realistically the league will probably resemble the SFL in the coming years. But with another club or 2 in Concordia and potentially Roseworthy regaining their own team. A similar league would operate with the expanded areas around Two Wells, Virgnia, and I would imagine the Plains league would dissolve into a Two Wells/Viriginia league and the NEFL. The NEFL would essenitally be what the GSFL is to the SFL, with the next ring of clubs out from the SFL. Tanunda, Nuri, Lyndoch are all towns that are also expanding or plans to expand, and they are already too powerful for clubs further North-East.
Regardless of what league they are in. The clubs which have played each other for over 125+ years would not be wanting to join a metro division based league where they might play their rivals once in blue moon, and have to forfeit the netball side of their club.
If you actually sit up and take notice of the premierships won since the G&DFL/BLGFA amalgamation Nuri and ourselves are well clear. I think if the Gawler teams were actually around the mark 20 years ago this conversation would have been happening back then. Swings and roundabouts, the only club I potentially feel sorry for are Kapunda who were starved of junior talent through the 2010s and are paying the price currently.

Freeling to the APFL for 2026 is the rumour I have been told. Two Wells looking at making an application for the BLG if this occurs.

Re: BL&G Football League
As a completely neutral observer (HFL D1 follower), I am a bit of a country footy nuffie and try and get around to other strong leagues in SA to check things out. From what I have seen although Two Wells are well too strong from APFL they’re still a fair bit off your competition…. Mind you with their growth I think they’d be silly to not pursue coming up even if it’s short term pain, the club will benefit hugely from being in a top 3 comp in SA. Nairne did it in our league and has paid dividends for them.

Barossa looking to bring the cup on return to their new home at Lyndoch!
Fenton, Casboult, Kajanto, Ryswyk, Goodfellow, Miles, Bates and Mumford in so far make for a very decent spine! Now just to get Heath Commane back at full forward and convince Dyson Sharp to play 3 games during the regular season
