Might be a drop in memberships after this, as it seems that a members opinion means nothing.
Or don't members have a say in this sort of matter.

It's all good and well to have a contract with a player but if the Power/Crows come knocking and the club denies a player that move how well does the player react. Some will be fine and get on with the job and others not so great and performance/effort will drop.

I think a clause in said contract along the lines of "should the interlopers come a knocking, then contracted player has the option of leaving,"whufc wrote:Yeah its a lot like the soccer world.gazzamagoo wrote:But players that think they've got a chance of being picked up won't sign until the very cut off point, this isn't good at all.southernbulldog wrote:So basically we need to sign as many as we can so they cant go to the AFL teams

Re: The never ending No AFL in the SANFL whinge thread
Thats going to be the balance isnt it. What the clubs need / require vs whats enough that players feel their ambitions are suitably accounted for in the contract. Otherwise they will continue to pack up and chase the ammo/country $$$gazzamagoo wrote:I think a clause in said contract along the lines of "should the interlopers come a knocking, then contracted player has the option of leaving,"whufc wrote:Yeah its a lot like the soccer world.gazzamagoo wrote:But players that think they've got a chance of being picked up won't sign until the very cut off point, this isn't good at all.southernbulldog wrote:So basically we need to sign as many as we can so they cant go to the AFL teams

Where are the Ravens and the Pear ressies going to go? There is no AFL reserves comp, the AFL seem to have made it very clear that they have no intention of funding that.DOC wrote:Craig Burton on C7 trying to explain the sellout.

Yep. WAFDH.
Darren Chandler makes it worse.
“We have told both Port and Adelaide that we want them to be part of the SANFL after the current contract expires in 2028”.
Yep. WAFDH
So after getting what they want to the detriment of the 8 clubs, Adelaide and Port have both issued a statement.
“We still wish to leave”
What a complete and utter cockup.
If they want to leave, let them leave. Why ruin what little credibilty you have left by bending over yet again, for little thanks?

Re: The never ending No AFL in the SANFL whinge thread
The AFL are basically paying over half a Million a year (could be more) to the SANFL and the eight clubs so they dont a have to fund an AFL reserves/VFL competition with all the AFL franchises in it.woodublieve12 wrote:Wouldn't they just go to the VFL? This is the AFL way of saying to Port we'll pay them off now STFU about an AFL reserves competition
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

On Power's website, it summarises the changes, then concludes with: "“With regards to the AFL’s Competitive Balance Review, Port Adelaide maintains that the AFL have a responsibility to provide all AFL listed players with the same opportunities to develop and the only way to achieve this is through a National Reserves or 2nd tier structure that all AFL Clubs participate in.”am Bays wrote:The AFL are basically paying over half a Million a year (could be more) to the SANFL and the eight clubs so they dont a have to fund an AFL reserves/VFL competition with all the AFL franchises in it.woodublieve12 wrote:Wouldn't they just go to the VFL? Re: The never ending No AFL in the SANFL whinge thread
I've managed to sleep on the sanfl decision and whilst it doesn't impact my lackadaisical observations of the now bush league, I truly admire those in charge at the sanfl. They've just made sure they have a job for as long as they want it.

Thats what hurts the most about the last 15 years of SANFL. The people running the comp we all love is doing so from a value set of whats best for their careers not the competition.mighty_tiger_79 wrote:I've managed to sleep on the sanfl decision and whilst it doesn't impact my lackadaisical observations of the now bush league, I truly admire those in charge at the sanfl. Re: The never ending No AFL in the SANFL whinge thread
I'd say any required over 21 at the SANFuL clubs would have signed deals, this didn't come as a surprise to the clubs.
Under 21s who have AFL aspirations and missed the draft ( Logan Evans ) will see it as their opportunity to get into the doors of an AFL club.
Over 21s who perhaps have coaching ambitions but aren't in the top 20 at their SANFuL club might move to create a pathway from playing to post playing.

If you want to go quickly, go alone.
If you want to go far, go together.
