Re: Who's got a Solar Power System installed?
Any one on here use their energy retailers app as well as their solar app?
Mine differ by a fair bit.
Feed in tariffs/credits line up but energy used from the grid doesn’t.
Just wondering how accurate each one is?

Re: Who's got a Solar Power System installed?
Anyone have a electric hot water system as well as solar?
If so do people change their heating times on the hot water from midnight to during the day when the suns up?
Our biggest usage is the hot water at night time heating up

Mine have been installed for about 8 years now and I’ve never had the system cleaned, checked or serviced. Does anyone else have their system checked? And any recommendations? tia.

For the panels just give them a hose down.
I know on mine they do get a build up of dirt, dust, bird shit

Bump …
My system has been up and running for over 13 years, still going strong.
Total generation 81.5 MWh
Average 16.7 kWh per day, which is bang on the original system estimate when installed
Average yearly saving $2,700
One of the best investments I’ve made.

What's your feed in tariff Dedj? I'm assuming pretty high given you've had your system for that long? My mum has had her system for 12 years now and while I can't remember her exact feed in tariff I know it's still pretty high.dedja wrote:Bump …

I’m on the State Govt 44c … got in just before they closed it. That’s before any retailer FIT.

Nice! I've got a 15c FIT, had my solar about 14/15 months now and while that's not a huge FIT it's definitely made a difference.dedja wrote:I’m on the State Govt 44c … got in just before they closed it. That’s before any retailer FIT.

15c is very good if you only got solar over a year ago

I get 10cents with EnergyAustralia.
There’s a few about that give 12-14 cents for the first 10kw per day but it drops to 6-8cents after that

I'm with Origin, I have the Origin Solar Boost Variable plan. It initially started at 12c and they told me if I see it change at all to contact them so when I saw it go up to 15c as part of a promotion back in November I contacted them and got it changed. I note now that plan has a 10c FIT.

Do you know what you pay for your Peak Usage? I'm paying 39.5c at the moment which seems to offset the lower FIT.

Re: Who's got a Solar Power System installed?
As above, I’m on the now long grandfathered State Govt 44c FIT, so if I make any changes to my system, include adding a battery, I lose that FIT.
That said, with the way that retail plans have changed, especially in the last couple of years, and the nature of TOU plans in SA, it’s not economical to even entertain batteries for me.
In my case, it’s more profitable to export during the day and maximise grid usage when my panels aren’t generating, whilst for those without the State Govt FIT, the opposite applies.
I’ll add that I’ve resisted any retailer attempts to swap my meter with a smart meter, as that automatically triggers a mandatory change to TOU plans, which are punitive in SA, and only a small number of consumers are better off using TOU rather than a single tariff plan.
I just need to hold out to 30/06/2028, when the 44c FIT ceases. In any case, smart meters will be mandatory by 2030, and any existing meters that require a change before then must be replaced by a smart meter. Your retailer can also trigger a smart meter upgrade, but, at least for now, you can elect to opt out.
