Nope, far more difficult, but we're not into tailoring personalized work plans for someone who has been with us for a week.
If you want to go quickly, go alone.
If you want to go far, go together.
If you want to go far, go together.

Yeah I’m with ya but sometimes it’s far easier and cheaper to give them what they want just to keep them

He wasn't recruited as such, a mate of a mate of someone who works here.

Always wondered this. We have Indian kids at school who go missing for 4-6 weeks before we can finally get hold of the family and they tell us they went overseas, have stopped and thought surely they'd tell their workplaces to have leave approved. Apparently not.

Yep, this or calling in sick via text is just crap
It's the way of the world now mate, it doesn't really bother me as I don't have to listen to them put on their sick voice nor do I have to answer their call if I'm out for dinner or having a few quiet ones at home. Same as in the morning, they won't wake anyone else up with a call.
I guess it can depend on the work environment and what needs to be organised by when, most of the time at my work people call in sick first thing in the morning, which doesn't really disrupt work apart from them not being here.
I just think it is basic respect and says a bit about the character of the person.

Yeah, fair enough, that changes things.
Gotta get some runs on the board and perhaps show a bit of sacrifice first.

He is "casual".
It's an epidemic atm that doesn't fluctuate between age or gender.
A casual last week had two days off and then came to see if he could leave early on the day he returned as he still wasn't feeling great, he proceeded to tell me the viscosity of his stools from the previous day when I interrupted him and told him to just go and take the rest of the week off.
Did you tell him to get his $hit together?
I had one lazy **** work for me about 10 years ago
His father worked for the company so he thought he was bullet proof
Used to turn his puter off at 4.50pm so he could get a flying start out the door so I got everyone to give him work at 4.51 to be done today.
Was 2 hours late one morning because the electricity went off and his alarm clock reset.... Yeah mate - you 20+ year olds use them.
I asked his father whether he came in with him this morning "no - he didn't come home last night"
Always taking sickies on Tuesday - come down Tuesday
Always sent texts even though he was required to call
He had one Tuesday off because he was on his deathbed - came in on Wednesday with a new haircut - not the sharpest tool in the shed
He eventually got the bullet and was unemployed because word had got around in a small close industry.
Eventually his father moved companies and junior got another job as part of the deal
I gave this one the benefit of the doubt as he at least made the effort to come to work and I could witness the ill health.
The other one I've told not to bother, he let me know via a a third party and didn't answer my call this morning that i made prior to knowing of his absence, I had told him that he was replacing someone who I got sick of his unreliability and poor communication skills...........the job pays $43 per hour and is piss easy.[/quote]
Whats the work? I'm looking to get back into work after being made redundant after 16 years working in Aquaculture industry on the EP. Want to be living/working from Semaphore instead of travelling all the time. I was Managing a fish Hatchery and Marine Operations site. 4 weeks into my redundancy break my wife severely broke her ankle and I've had to be caring for her and 2 young kids Full time, so both of us with no work (she's been a trt teacher since our 1st born) & Income Protection Insurance has been a right royal stuff around for pennies.

It's very disruptive here, I have to re-arrange the roster of those that are at work which means stopping any training to man roles according to the skill sets that I have available and then organise replacements from the late shift to come in early or for the early shift to stay back late, this incurs a meal break allowance on top of their overtime rates.
I guess the SMS sort of safeguards themselves as proof that they told me, one bloke messaged me at 1:30am to tell me he won't be in at 10am, I messaged him the following Sunday morning at 3am to see if he wanted to start early on the Wednesday, he now waits til 5am to let me know of his pending absence.
I think I'm a caller though, I haven't had a sickie since my dad died over 11 years ago and organise all of my appointments around my working hours, I work a lot more hours than I get paid for so work is quite flexible, infact my boss pushes me out the door on Friday's at 2pm.

I got an email last week from our HR saying I can’t message staff outside of work hours about work as it could be considered bullying!

Isn’t it you can’t message more than a certain number of times?
I employ casual staff and that’s the only time I really can get hold of them.
