Dude chucking a sickie on day 3, that was after stopping by my office on Friday after he had clocked out to say how grateful he was for the opportunity.

Casual employed last week came to me Friday asking if he can do 7-3 three days a week and 9-5 two days a week so he can go to his personal training sessions in the mornings. Oh, and it'll vary from week to week depending on his trainers schedule.
If you want to go quickly, go alone.
If you want to go far, go together.
If you want to go far, go together.

He is "casual".
It's an epidemic atm that doesn't fluctuate between age or gender.
A casual last week had two days off and then came to see if he could leave early on the day he returned as he still wasn't feeling great, he proceeded to tell me the viscosity of his stools from the previous day when I interrupted him and told him to just go and take the rest of the week off.

Did you tell him to get his $hit together?
I had one lazy **** work for me about 10 years ago
His father worked for the company so he thought he was bullet proof
Used to turn his puter off at 4.50pm so he could get a flying start out the door so I got everyone to give him work at 4.51 to be done today.
Was 2 hours late one morning because the electricity went off and his alarm clock reset.... Yeah mate - you 20+ year olds use them.
I asked his father whether he came in with him this morning "no - he didn't come home last night"
Always taking sickies on Tuesday - come down Tuesday
Always sent texts even though he was required to call
He had one Tuesday off because he was on his deathbed - came in on Wednesday with a new haircut - not the sharpest tool in the shed
He eventually got the bullet and was unemployed because word had got around in a small close industry.
Eventually his father moved companies and junior got another job as part of the deal

Given the present state of the job market, does one acquiesce to these demands or does one tell him to get on his bike? Serious question.

If they were training for some sort of competition, even just and amatuer powerlift or bodybuilding, then employers need to give it decent consideration in current times. Or is just a bogan trying to show off at the beach?
Is it workable in Booney's company which sounds like it is manufacturing?
The bit about varying due to the trainers schedule is over the top.
In a few month's time it might change anyway, if he is doing these hours consistently he can request going permanent rather than casual.

I gave this one the benefit of the doubt as he at least made the effort to come to work and I could witness the ill health.
The other one I've told not to bother, he let me know via a a third party and didn't answer my call this morning that i made prior to knowing of his absence, I had told him that he was replacing someone who I got sick of his unreliability and poor communication skills...........the job pays $43 per hour and is piss easy.

You'll have to send me his name, I reckon he's the same bloke that insisted that I employ him, huge fella with a few piercings happening.

It's the way of the world now mate, it doesn't really bother me as I don't have to listen to them put on their sick voice nor do I have to answer their call if I'm out for dinner or having a few quiet ones at home. Same as in the morning, they won't wake anyone else up with a call.

Re: Things that give you the sh1ts
We have plenty of Indians at work and they all go home for about 4-6 weeks most years which is fine but we had a bloke recently start with the company and on his third week he was a no show and we eventually found out he had gone back to India for a month and asked if he could still have his job when he returned

I gave him the news that the hours are 8-4 Monday to Friday as per his contract.
He left on his own accord at 10:03 am.

Is it easier getting staff now than 12-18 months ago?
