So Adelaide would pick up a 6 year deal with you'd expect a price tag of around $700-750k per year assuming Melbourne are paying $250-300k per year and bring Oliver into a market that will see him face more external pressure and scrutiny than he ever has in Melbourne.

Wow.

For a player like Oliver well worth the risk at that money.
Who knows, Adelaide lifestyle might be what he needs rather than Melbourne.

Never have too many quality midfielders.

Getting out of Victoria might be what he needs.

Coming to sleepy old Adelaide might do him the world of good.

There's 9 other clubs to take him out of the cycle.

The bloke who requested a trade here to be closer to his Mother after his Father passed away?

Yes, now, go on......

Oliver doesn't make sense for either the Cows or the Pear. Both have plenty of midfield depth, why you'd pay $700K plus per year on an area of least concern is beyond me. Especially one with more baggage than the undercarriage of a full Greyhound bus...

A bloke who had previous drug issues looking to move to another state that he believed was going to help him.

Depends what way you spin it......but its not a whole lot different. At the end of the day if Oliver comes it's no different to requesting a trade back as he has to agree to be traded so a part of him will want the move if he arrives.

At the end of the day its all speculation what his motives etc are and even further to that is that despite all the speculation and analysis there is no 'magic formula' that determines whether a trade is a hit or a bust.

Ultimately Oliver at his best his an A+ player. If you just look purely at this year his averaging 23 possessions, his above average for effective disposals, above average in contested possessions and above average for centers clearances (which Adelaide currently sit 13th in). Those players don't grow on trees in the AFL, can't really blame any team for taking a punt on the bloke if they have the cap space.

If Port were in for him you would 100% be throwing everyone the line that it's an educated risk and one worth a crack etc etc etc.

31 goals last year in 19 games, 19 in 12 games this year and has looked our most damaging small forward since arriving. So far, so good but what's is a "success" in trade terms? So many measures it's pretty hard to say yes or no.

by any measure the Willie trade has been a success. You argue the toss about how successful but a win for both player and club.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!
