Re: AFL Round 17
An aspiring sports journo has had his Brisbane Lions membership cancelled after posting vile abuse towards Crows star Izak Rankine online.
An aspiring sports journalist who targeted Adelaide star Izak Rankine with abuse online says he was “intoxicated and pissed off” when he posted and is “extremely remorseful” over his actions.
The Crows star was the subject of two social media posts from Jakob Matheson on his X account on Sunday that contained abusive language.
On his LinkedIn account, Mr Matheson - who writes Division 6 SAAFL match reports with SA Footballer Magazine - describes himself as an aspiring sports and radio podcaster.
He has also covered the Adelaide Footy League and SANFL with the magazine.
Mr Matheson told The Advertiser he was “extremely sorry about (his) actions” and had since deleted his social media accounts.
“I was a bit intoxicated and frustrated because he knocked out a Brisbane Lions player and I obviously wasn’t thinking when I tweeted it,” Mr Matheson said.
“I know there is nothing I can do, I obviously wasn’t thinking when I tweeted it. “I’ll make sure nothing like this ever happens again.
“I am extremely remorseful and solemnly apologise and will do better to educate myself in the future.”
Mr Matheson said the Brisbane Lions had contacted him on Sunday night and informed him his membership had been cancelled.

Re: AFL Round 17
Im not saying this guy is applicable but.....there are intellectually disabled people who go to the footy religiously.
Sometimes they can shout out highly inappropriate stuff (sometimes hilariously so).
I remember a reserves game at the bay and some of the stuff coming out of this guys mouth was embarrassing.
Had to tell him to knock it off. He still kept saying the same thing, only not at the top of his voice.

Not that its worth the time and effort, but Crows should challenge that on the "intentional" part. The head contact was careless not intentional. Get it down to 3 games.
We all know Heeney will challenge and get off.

Nah the Brownlow medal chance credits he will get.
The Brownlow is losing its shine a bit and the last thing they need is a suspended winner.

Why the charades, everyone knows Heeney will be let off.
He punched Zerk-Thatcher in the head so hard he broke his hand a few years back and didn’t get cited. He’s a favourite of AFL house

Literally went to swipe his hand away as he was being held. Nothing in it. Should be overturned

Not the action but the consequence. Got him high, drew blood. If this one doesnt get a week none will.

It was a bloody nose. Not a concussion or a broken bone

If he was some no namer or not a star he would get a game every day of the week.woodublieve12 wrote:Literally went to swipe his hand away as he was being held. Nothing in it. Should be overturned
The stars are judged differently which is what annoys people
