Without stereotyping some teams supporters will be hit harder by increased costs though.Spargo wrote:No different to Melbourne where they had record crowds.amber_fluid wrote:Surely cost of living is a factor here.

I use to go to 1-2 crows games and 1-2 port games a year to catch up with mates but as a neutral supporter AO has lost its appeal to me and it’s easier to to catch-up with mates at home or at the local.
Carton or two of good beer, good bottle of whiskey and some Thai takeaway in the man cave at home with mates is a far better option than drinking shit beer and overpriced food at AO.

Re: PAFC 2024
Not sure why anyone has to buy food at the footy, if you need to eat in that 120 minutes take it with you.
I don’t drink at the AFL as I would need to pee every 15 minutes and it’s annoying for others to constantly get up and down.
SANFL, well that’s different. Trees on the outer side get a good watering in winter

Re: PAFC 2024
Whilst the above speaks for itself, i think Trav's best attribute and for mine speaks volumes of the guy is when the club was on is knees and the merry men from Geelong rolled into town sweatpants and all, on the hunt for Trav and offered the kitchen sink and he declined.Booney wrote:This week Travis Boak plays his 350th AFL game joining Eddie Betts and Doug Hawkins on 350 games, equal 21st on the all time list. If he plays the rest of the year he'll be just outside top 10 all time games played.
He's had the most-ever disposals in AFL games played outside Victoria (6377)
Of the 214 other players Port has had play at AFL level, Travis has played a game with 147 of them.
Port Adelaide captain: 2013–2018
Port Adelaide AFL games record holder
3× All-Australian team: 2013, 2014, 2020
2× John Cahill Medal: 2011, 2019
3× Showdown Medal: 2013 (game 1), 2020, 2021 (game 1)
AFL Rising Star nominee: 2007
As i said the club was all sorts of strife, it would've been the easy option for Travis to head to Geelong, lets not forget he is a Torque boy, but he stood fat with Port on the back of them giving him the opportunity to play the game he loves.
Massive respect from me and i hope he plays a ripper in his well earnt 350th game, i can't think of many players i respect more than Travis Boak.

It's not a totally ridiculous call, even if the initial comment was being facetious. Underwhelming springs to mind.carey wrote:Good, Ordinary Player????

Sadly, for Port fans, compare Boak's career to that of Joel Selwood, taken 2 picks apart.
A career spanning 350 games is a wonderful return for pick 5, in isolation, however - since the 2014 season, on the back of 2013-14 AA seasons and Port, thought by many to be on the cusp of premiership success, to have delivered 1 x AA season, 1 x B&F and zero flags, is not the legacy Travis would have wanted, nor what Port fans at the time, would have expected the next 9 seasons to have delivered.
I absolutely adore the guy, but if we are being honest with ourselves, his career closely reflects that of Ken's - good, but nowhere near great.

Don't let the lack of team success in the last month of the year detract from his career.

Re: PAFC 2024
It's not just the lack of team success that forms my opinion. Had you asked me for my prediction of Travis' career at the conclusion of 2014, i'd have expected at least a couple more AA's in that 2015-2020 period + at least 1 more B&F. He carried us on his back with some outstanding football during 2013-14 and was genuinely elite during those seasons. Sadly- that was as good as it got for Trav, and his consummate professionalism and dedication to his craft and what he has meant to the PAFC playing group doesn't detract from that, IMO. A premiership would cement his legacy at PAFC as a legend of the club, but against his peers both past and present - a flag would probably amount to a great career at best.Booney wrote:Don't let the lack of team success in the last month of the year detract from his career.

Re: PAFC 2024
Was at a sport and rec which included some high level AFL admin. They are generally happy with how crowds are going etc but one challenge they are facing is finding ways for a day/night at the footy to be attractive to the whole family.amber_fluid wrote:Better value for money at the FringeBrodlach wrote:Yet there are record numbers at the Fringe.amber_fluid wrote:Surely cost of living is a factor here.

They were on the belief that family dynamics have changed so significantly in recent times and outings that can include the entire family have never been seen as more valuable. Especially with cost of living if families can afford an outing its going to be together not multiple seperate outings.
This part of the reason the AFL have pushed so hard for the AFLW, get more women interested in footy and then footy becomes more of a family outing not just dad and son.
The fringe would have been huge competition for the port game given the fringe is very much a family outing.

Re: PAFC 2024
Plenty of Superstars have never won a premiership, some never even play finals.
Aaron Keating won a premiership medal, would never rate him above Boak.
Truly a champion clubman
