Aah memories. Big Ugo. Footy in the afternoon then on the door at "Sam's" Disco at the Redlegs Club at night, if you didn't have a tie on - no entry!

Ugo had the world's biggest hands, when he was putting them up in front of you to say 'no', when all you wanted to do was get inside for a bit of under-age drinking. Played his one great game late in the '80 season, carving up Rick Davies one day, and then went and got himself hurt at work a few days later and missed the finals. (not that we were ever going to beat Port that year)

They should give him HArgs' guernsey - it will save them having to "let out" another one....

choppy is what they need down at alberton,a player that puts his body on the line at all costs, hard as nails & has the shit in him 2 stand up 2 players like the "gowan twins".Look'n fwd 2 that dual next yr providing they dont run scared back 2 victoria.Just hope the magpies dont go stupid with the $$, like they have with others at club over the past 3 yrs, although choppy's worth his money. providing he's there 4 the right reasons & sets the standard 4 the youngsters at the club on & "off" the field! LETS HOPE SO.

Fair enough... How old is Choppy? Likely midfielder or permanent h/b flanker?

He's Port Adelaide through and through - thug.

Shouldn't make too big a difference at Port as he'll spend the bulk of the year suspended.

Antrobus or Pickett, who was the dirtiest player, i'd be interested to know from non Port and non North fans their opinions.

I don't think of either of them as dirty really. As a Norwood man, I think Pickett delivers probably the best bumps of any bloke who has played for a long, long, long time, and he gets about 1 in 15 of them wrong and then really cleans up blokes (when he hits them in the head, or they are over the ball). However, he crunches a hell of a lot of blokes body to body and they all feel it.

As for Antrobus, I reckon he started about 15 pct of the blues he was in, but got sprung 85 pct of the time trying to belt someone who has standing him to close for his liking, niggling him, whatever etc. Don't know if he had a hopelessly short fuse or not, that's for North men to tell me, but I never thought of him as dirty, just someone who was way too easily got in.

If we're talking dirty players, I'm afraid I have to go:
Alan Stringer - champion of managing to connect with blokes not looking at him and nothing worse than what he did in 84 quali v centrals that ended up getting Carey rubbed out (who was trying to swing at the Dogs' bloke chasing Stringer for his whack on someone) and probably cost the Bays a flag.
Grave Danger - again, did some horrible things to skinny blokes or guys not looking. Didn't spend a lot of time looking for John Wynne though.
Wayne Stringer - must have taught his little brother most of the stuff he knew.
Kym Klomp
The younger Riley (so different to his older brother John)

And, no, I certainly don't claim we were angels at the Parade.

Great post mate, I know a lot of the NA people are filthy on James Gowans, but lets not forget some true animals of the game.
The Stringer bros, I heard Graeme Cornes talking about how hard Alan was, the pair of them Alan and Wayne, hit and run , real dirty cowards.
Surprisingly Barry Stringer was a much fairer player.
The younger Riley as you say, a true born and bred piece of hit when they werent looking type.
Grave Danger, nuff said.
Scott Salisbury, ditto.
There used to be a guy who played at West, Ray Hayes, not much better.
Kim Klomp just nasty.
There have been heaps and heaps of them over the years from all clubs , the list goes on.But I think Byron Pickett is just a hard player who had an uncanny knack of using speed, power and timing in his hip and shoulders to devastating effect, and at least he never left the scene of an incident like a coward as some of the above used to.
Cheers 8)
