Re: Gaza FC - Salary Cap Breaches
Jervois would be laughing all the way to the bank after winning back to back flags even after the penalties. They would be saying behind closed doors that it was well worth it.
I know of a country club who would take tax out of player payments and proclaimed that the players were actually better off as they were then able to claim lots of expenses that they wouldnt normally be able to claim. Im no accountant so not too sure on the facts of that one. But i guess, fuel, car costs, even medical expenses could be claimed, maybe even overnight accomodation and meals. I dont think it would be too hard to start showing a net loss on the payments. Would that then mean you get more of your actual income tax from your main employment back too?

186k Fine
6 points loss
6 premiership point loss
Rosella 5 years
"Justice Michael David KC – the independent Salary Cap Commissioner – made recommendations on penalties to the SA Football Commission on Tuesday night after finding the club guilty of all charges laid by SANFL involving player payments, total player match payment and sign-on breaches, as well as false contracts throughout the 2018, 2019, 2021 and 2022 Adelaide Footy League seasons.
He recommended the club should be fined a total of $186,000 for the breaches.
The club is also set to be docked six premiership points for the 2024 season and will be stripped of six Approved Player Points System points used to recruit players. "

Why did they half the initial fine?
Did they say?
Got off lightly here.

The penalties, including the structure of payment of the fine, are set to be considered and then ratified by the SA Football Commission next week.
They may also be altered by the Commission ahead of next week if it sees fit.
Dunno, I’m just an idiot.

Lighter on field penalties than Jervois.. came out of it better than you would’ve expected.

Re: Gaza FC - Salary Cap Breaches
I wonder if he ordered legal costs on top of this. I would have.
I feel a lot of Gaza people got taken for a ride. Being threatened with a Supreme Court action by your President/Forner President after 11:59pm tonight, via the “club lawyer” is a fitting ending for this ridiculous saga. Threatening defamation is the cherry on top.

Wonder whether the costs agreement is with the club or rosella?

What about the footy director and previous coach, wouldn’t they be in a bit of trouble as well

Several of the original charges were dropped/not proven just before and during the previous hearing. But it still left 223 offences which the Judge has ended up landing on $186K.

Yeah agree, on-field penalties a tad light for mine. Would have a thought a scaled recruiting ban over a period of time would have been the go.
$186k is a heck of a lot but with a payment plan they should be able to keep the doors open which good for all juniors concerned. It's a big enough fine to act as a deterrent without being a death notice so i think it's about right.
President getting 5 years......would have thought longer could be in order.

Re: Gaza FC - Salary Cap Breaches
$186k is still a heck of a lot of money. Even if half of that is suspended and if Rosellas claim that the club was $80k plus in debt prior to all this then that’s a serious problem (It’s a serious problem if your clubs debt is quarter of that). The next few weeks are going to be interesting.
Can you bring a man to his feet when defeat is on repeat?

Re: Gaza FC - Salary Cap Breaches
Rosella should've got life. Just for the carry on after he knew they were guilty.
Should've got zero points for 3 years.
I think the fine should be manageable. Good thing they halved it.

Re: Gaza FC - Salary Cap Breaches
I'm curious how people think $186K is manageable. What sort of income is coming through your clubs!! I expect they will be given at least 5 years to pay the fine so that's still $37K a year. Some clubs would struggle to even budget for that amount of money for player payments. It's one thing to pay off a debt if it's something like a loan for lights etc. when the club is otherwise in a sound position on and off the field but clearly Gaza aren't in that position. Wouldn't have a clue who is left to pick up the pieces at Gaza and good luck to them if they can make a go of senior participation in 2024 but it must be hard for them to even reconcile the 'what now'.

Fair points you make my friend.. and given their president has also been their major sponsor, being able to pay off the debt will be largely dependent on their ability to draw in new sponsors - which may prove difficult in the next couple of years.
$37k p/a to pay off the debt may be feasible, but you'd have to think it would mean not being able to pay players until it's paid off.
I don't know the Gaza financials though or their income streams - maybe it's more than manageable.. if it was Ingle Farm we would be screwed - we have an annual budget of like $20k for coaches & players, if we had to find double that amount I don't think we could.

Don’t pay any players, use that money to pay the debt.
18 weeks x $2500 = $45,000
Gives $400 a week left to maybe pay a player or two.

I’m no longer involved out there.
Gaza were paying more than that otherwise no investigation, they can afford it.
May not win too many games but thems the breaks.
