North Adelaide Football Club would like to inform members that Matt was the unfortunate victim of an unprovoked attack on Friday Night at a 18th birthday party. Matt is a fine young man with an outstanding future, which makes this attack even more horrific.

A bottle was thrown at him whilst escorting some girls to their taxi after the party. Gatecrashers through a bottle which struck Matt above the eye, fracturing his socket and skull, causing swelling of the brain.

Matt was knocked unconscious for some time and then transferred immediately by Ambulance to Hospital. It must be noted that Matt was hit from behind and had no chance of protecting himself.

After visiting Matt in hospital today, the good news is that he is expected to make a full recovery. It will take time, ruling him out of football training until next year. For such a talented footballer with aspirations of AFL Football it is a harsh blow. But knowing Matt as we do, he will bounce back better than ever, and he will achieve his goals both in football and life.

Our thoughts and prayers extend to Matt, his parents Steve and Tracey and his family. We wish Matt a speedy recovery and the North Adelaide Football Club is committed to helping Matt return to the sport he loves.

The supporters on The Roost are looking at getting a present for Matty, any ideas for a teenager?
Ideas so far are First Bounce voucher and an Ipod.

Looking at his player profile I'd suggest dashing of some emails to try and organize get well messages from Jessica Alba and/or Carmen Electra...worst they'll do is say 'no thanks'. Failing that he lists his favourite AFL team as Essendon so maybe something from them...signed if possible.

I had the pleasure of meeting his old man grand final day. All us rowdy dog fans were having a bbq across from his and after alot of freindly banter he came across and said no hard feelings wishes both teams all the best and told us Matty he was his son.

I jokingly told him i heard on the radio Matty was dropped for Wintle, he nearly had a heart attck and then saw the funny side once i told him i was joking. He told me the message he sent his son in the morning it was all positve and supportive of the team not just matty.

According to Ten news tonight a 16 year old gate crasher has been charged.

I hope that Mr Wright seeks significant compensation from the parents of this gutless coward......

Matt is a quality young man and has a very big future. He is a very determined and positive lad and i have no doubt he will become the footballer we all know he is capable of becoming. All the best to Matt and his family.

He was on 5AA tonight and altho I didn't hear the whole interview he sounded in good spirits and on the road to full recovery

Sounds like a few centimetres either way and he would have lost an eye or suffered brain damage

I am very happy to hear that good luck was on his side and we'll see him back on the field next year

We've put the hat around on the Roost and I've just about finished rounding up all the $$$s and we should have a $350 Rebel voucher for Matty soon to help cheer him up.
