Zampa can stop shitting himself now.
Credit where credit’s due, the Saffers never gave up, with some clean fielding they could have pulled off a miracle.
For the Aussies, there isn’t enough Spakfilla to fill the cracks for Sunday.
Congrats to India as the 2023 ICC World Cup Champions.

India go in as favourites but anything can happen in a limited overs game. Additionally, India are probably under more pressure than Australia.dedja wrote:Zampa can stop shitting himself now.

My biggest concern is that we'll need 9 or 10 overs each from Cummins, Starc and Zampa and at least 7 or 8 will have to be darn good ones. But it's hard to see Cummins and Zampa not getting seriously smacked around by the Indians on yesterday's evidence, and Starc - well, it's a lottery as to where he's going to bowl.

Same deal with the bat, we need Head, Warner, Marsh or Maxwell to go Downtown, 215 ain’t gonna cut it against India.RB wrote:India go in as favourites but anything can happen in a limited overs game. Agree with everything said. We're a good ordinary side. Just happen to be a bit better than the rest of the pack. But that pitch wasn't really conducive of a big score. On the pitch on Sunday, I'd suggest a bigger score on a better pitch by both sides.Lightning McQueen wrote:Same deal with the bat, we need Head, Warner, Marsh or Maxwell to go Downtown, 215 ain’t gonna cut it against India.RB wrote:India go in as favourites but anything can happen in a limited overs game. That’s a fair analysis too, we’re the best of a bad lot, having said that, you watch one of our players turn it on big time and single-handedly beat the Indians, my moneys on it being Trav.gadj1976 wrote:

Going against the grain here but I’d probably bring in Stoinis for Smith and possibly swap keepers, both incoming players would be champing at the bit as pre tournament they were amongst the first few picked.
It’s going to be a 350+ final so we need all the firepower we have, we’re not scoring that if Smith and Lab occupy the crease for too long, gotta go all out.

If we could fit in an extra bat somewhere would be handy, but can't see it.
We need to bat deep - India will have one of two pitches - it'll either be slow and low, or it'll be hard and flat so their top 6 can go to work.
They'll want to hit 400.

Narrator..... "There was not something in this"whufc wrote:On the theory that the Aussies could be a tad cooked.
If you compare the side to the England one taking part in the world cup given they both played in the Ashes series and then limited overs cricket afterwards.
Last nights Aussie side had 7 blokes who participated in playing tests in the Ashes series plus you could add Carey to make 8.
England on the other hand only have the 3 blokes.
Something in it?
If you can keep your head when all around you have lost theirs, then you probably haven't understood the seriousness of the situation.

Some of these posts from start of the tournament are classic now looking back. Ron's got this team a step further than JL could in the last world cup in conditions that don't suit us at all.whufc wrote:Couldn't agree more.am Bays wrote:The bigger issue is the coachong/managing of the side

Obviously, none of us know the true answer but from perspective it appears that whilst Langer had flaws he also was very well prepared, had the team play with an edge and had extremely high standards.
Some of that seems to have been lost in recent times. As you said they seem to lack intent, they don't seem to have great plans and it comes across as if they are being coached by a mate who has somewhat let the standards slip.
Pull of a miracle on Sunday & this generations cements themselves as one of our best ever.
I've said it before but we wont know how good it was having Josh Hazlewood till he's gone. Dead set star.

Re: Mens ICC Cricket World Cup, India 2023.
One thing to take into account was that the pitch and conditions in Kolkata last night are high unlikely to be repeated in the final.
The pitch must have sweated like a pig in the lead up, noting that both captains were going to bat first, atmosphere like a soup with the lights on all match. It swung like anything with lots of bounce early, then out of nowhere started to spin square.
Selection for the final will be difficult, Head, Inglis and Starc (both bat and ball) in particular stood tall, but apart from Warner, the rest of the so called recognised batters were fragile. Smith was shaky early, he composed himself with Inglis to do all the hard work to bring it home then had one of the biggest brain fades of the tournament. Maxwell and Marsh are either red hot or merde, and Marnus wasn’t up to it last night with the bat, but his fielding saved many runs.
Does Stoinis deserve to replace anyone? Marnus or Smith?
Hazlewood and Starc were exceptional with the ball, could not fathom how Hazlewood wasn’t allowed to bowl his full 10. Maxwell did a great job bogging down one end. Head turned the match back after the Saffers were gaining some momentum, and Cummins recovered after a poor start. Zampa couldn’t capitalise on the conditions and got smacked around the park, but has been great all tournament.
Also, fielding was exceptional from everyone.
Any changes here? Don’t know that you can.
I was being flippant earlier about declaring India the winner before the final, but we would have to play out of our skins with no passengers to have a hope, and whilst I’d love to see it happen, India have been the better team.
That said, pressure does funny things.

We've got by a lot as others have pointed out on freelance cricket or individual brilliance. Maxys innings as the primary evidence.
What I will admit is that as the wins have come the confidence has risen and that has been exemplified in the fielding which is massively improved thanks to Marnus who is a barometer int eh field.
However Bottom line is India are still spewing from 1987 when us and the Poms ruined the fatewell party for Sunny Havaskar (in best richie voice) and Kapil
They made sure they didnt f*** up Sachins farewell in 2011 and they will want to make sure Virat gets the farewell they think he deserves..
Everything ahs to go right for us to win, India are the more complete one-day side at the minute.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Smith to 3
Marsh to 4
Marnus to 5
Stoinis/Green is no upgrade on Marnus as Pat wont bowl them anyway.

If it comes to bringing in am all-rounder I would go with Abbott. Better bowler than both Stoinis and Green and can bat better than many give him credit for.Dinglinga75 wrote:Would you rather go Stonis or Green ...

His 30 was still crucial though. He came in when the score was 62 and left at 174. Had we had any other player outside the XI playing instead of Smith last night, we would have lost.Lightning McQueen wrote:And he didn’t.Armchair expert wrote:Strike rate was irrelevant last night he just had to stay out thereLightning McQueen wrote:With a healthy strike rate of 48!Aerie wrote:Wasn’t expecting Smith to leave it up to others. Leave the team the same. It is clearly the best XI. Green is out of form unfortunately. Stoinis will never stand up in a big game. Abbott and Carey are just spares.
Bat first and hope 2 of Warner/Head/Marsh get going and we're a big chance.
India have dominated everything before them and go in massive favourites, but this Aussie team seems to find a way.

Shami is one in front of Zampa
