If you're looking at Glenunga, have you seen the junior program? You invest in juniors, and you play higher grades. Its not rocket science. .

You can't compare Glenunga with say Eastern Park you dumb ****.

One is a club in an affluent area, flush with high end sponsors and families that are comfortable paying the best part of $350 - $400 in fees for their kid. A high functioning committee, members with white collar backgrounds and an area that is booming in Jnr footy.

The other is a working class, low socio-economic area where the footy club is the livelihood for many locals, but sponsorship is tough going and competing with local clubs for kids is even harder. Committee and members made up of passionate people trying to do best by their club, but often not having the ways or means. Families that might struggle to pay $200 in fees for their kids.

If eastern park focused on their juniors and built them up rather than paying for players and crashing to DIV 6! they would have been better off. They were div 10-12 Years ago!

Juniors first - Pay spuds second! - Unfortunately, that's why the majority of these clubs will struggle. They fail to see this simple and very useful bit of information!

Pag, I’m pretty confident that a few of those clubs mentioned would be paying some guys ridiculous coin…

But they wouldn't have been when they were formerly in in D6. Or if they did, they paid the right guys that continued to take them in the right direction, through D5 and D4 and up into D3 (for all bar Kenilworth), not club hoppers who think D5 is too hard like many going around.

That's the big thing.

Kenilworth have been working so hard on juniors for quite some time. Even rebranding to St Marys (the juniors) to include and invest in the community. Its a slow burn, teams like Edwardstown very close makes it hard. Not sure about Marion but i assume they have a decent or at least growing Juniors as well nearby. Plus all the others in the area (numerous in a 10-15k radius). Clubs are working together in some cases.

Its not as straight forward as Nicholas Cage is trying to put it. Numerous factors, and lets be honest - dwindling participation.

You're spot on. Paying the right guys. Guys that want to buy into what you're selling, not just guys looking for the highest price for the easiest money. And then switching clubs every 2-3 years.

Glenunga and Golden Grove are often accused of buying players. But, not too many of them leave after 1-2 seasons at the club. They build a successful environment that makes them want to stay. Having said that, both of those clubs have massive junior programs, so they are financially secure - not reliant on a benefactor until their money runs out.

I think another question is how do you reatin all your juniors as well when mum and dad see your seniors in div 1 or div 6 what will they choose. At this rate every junior player will be registered with Grove Glenunga TTG PNU Henley. When your better kids go to sanfl programs they also try to push them to div 1 or 2 clubs. So getting poached from everywhere. Then they become zero pointers for those clubs as well. And the cycle continues.....

2 Clubs for 15 16 years ago. That means there are a hell of a lot that have failed.

Four clubs in this division tried the easy way, got caught out and came crashing down. It should teach all clubs that are paying stupid amounts for average players, and that's what this division really is - Its C1 A Grade.

You can fix this situation by coming to a club they want to join. You'll argue how! With what money can they do this?

The SANFL said they would look at this when they took over junior footy admin
