Last year's crowd was 27,459 but remember it was shocking weather which must have kept a lot of people away. Today was the first real test as to whether crowds have come back after Covid. North vs Norwood in 2018 was 40,355, Glenelg vs Port in 2019 was 39,105, Sturt vs Port in 2017 was 39,813 and Port vs Norwood in 2014, 38,444. I was expecting 40,000 today. Would have the warm weather kept some people away? Even though the winning margin was 24 points, as a neutral I never thought Sturt were a threat. It felt like an 8 goal game and that would certainly impacted the atmosphere.
Cost of living is a major factor. As a neutral I wouldn’t be going, 8 beers and an entry ticket and I'm $130 in the hole. That's a tank of fuel.
You're probably right $38 for a ticket is a bit much for some atm.
That, or, port Nuffies trolling a game about crowd, atmosphere all week when they’re not involved.

Happily stand corrected if anyone else tuning in thought the atmosphere was amazing.
As for the crowd, it was disappointing. They hoped for 40,000 and fell short.
I was there and there was bugger all atmosphere in the western stand. Hardly anyone even clapping or cheering, it was so bizarre. I go the GF every year and normally theres a great atmosphere and feel about the game.
Probably because you where in the northern part with all the Sturt fans. The southern end, eastern stand and hill had plenty of noise. After watching the replay the sound doesn't come through at all on the TV. I'll bet not all the effects mics were switched on or working. The mic/sound system wasn't working when they had the speeches and read out the players medals after the game. Couldn't hear a thing on the eastern side, poor form from whoever is in charge of it.

Hone seemingly never misses when he plays the Roosters. Hosie, of course, never looked like missing and was a very worthy Jack Oatey medallist. He had missed 2019 when drafted mid season, early in the 2021 Grand Final he took a hanger in the square and goaled. That was his only kick for the match. He certainly made amends yesterday. Glenelg had a very potent forward line. It was Hosie's turn yesterday, both Reynolds and McBean can be matchwinners too.

I had so many free tickets, I couldn't give them away.
I would suspect most people didn't pay for a ticket there and agree $38 is ridiculous.
The SANFL juniors had their association medal counts, so there would've been a couple of hundred people there too that were free to stay on for the main game. It was a good atmosphere, just a shame we couldn't kick straight.

Modbury also lost 3 of 4 GF's on the weekend, so my weekend was sh1t (from a football sense).

Otherwise, it was a great weekend, beers were flowing at every opportunity, and I was out in the sunshine, just the results didn't go my way. We live another day. Well done to the Bays, I'm just glad the Cows didn't win it.
