What a run by Goodwood.
Who is the longest club now, PAOC?

I think it's Port Districts? Promoted from Division 2 after losing the Grand Final to Portland in 2013. PAOC won Division 2 and were promoted in 2015.jo172 wrote:What a run by Goodwood.

Not quite mate.
The Goodwood Saints Football Club was established in 1985, when Goodwood Football Club and St. Raphaels Football Club amalgamated.
The club commenced in A4. We immediately earned promotion to A3 by reaching the grand final. The result was an unfortunate loss to Glenunga by 10 points.
In 1986 the Saints finished 6th but under the guidance of coach Trevor Ash the club improved to win the 1987 A3 premiership. The premiership was achieved with a 79 point belting of Brighton High Old Scholars at Thebarton Oval. The Club consolidated its position in A2 finishing 8th in 1988 and 7th in 1989.
From 1990
1990 proved a standout year for the Saints. The side lost only one game in the season under coach Warren Ploenges culminating in a grand final victory over Gaza by 37 points. Rover David Whelan won the A2 association medal and Stuart Wells booted 128 goals for the season (including 15 goals against Brighton High Old Scholars). The club had reached A1 in just six seasons after the amalgamation.
The club was promoted to A1 SAAFL in 1991 and has remained in A1 for the next 30 seasons. No other club has remained in the top division in this time.

In this time Jimmy, we all know Uni’s story however they haven’t been in D1 for the last 34 years.

Goodies the streak, Uni's the most years I reckon. Makes you think if your an OS, you need a club, rather than a pub.
Whoops, there goes another year. Whoops, there goes another pint of beer.

Is this referencing Goodwood Saints? Are you suggesting that Goody Saints relegation is linked to the club's policy on social justice issues?

FC posted on Div 2 page a few days ago saying Goodwood have a lot to thank SPOC for as some management stuff up sends SPOC to div 2. But hey I could be wrong

I don't think FC was expecting SPOC to beat Port Districts on the weekend. Then they would have been relegated as a result of losing their 'win' against Iggies earlier in the season for playing an ineligible player.

Broadies missed the 5 by less than 3 goals, ouch. Good year for them and a chance to build next year.
Goody Sts to Div 2, the first time ever in their history. Plus with the coach standing down this week they’d be feeling fairly down tonite.
Shouldnt be, their womens have just four-peated and elevated to div 1!

It was more along the line of thinking that Goodwood were going to scrape through, not thinking that 9th would beat 4th in the last round...
The top quote was probably referring to the fact that Goodwood chose to appoint a female footy director this year.

I don't think anyone was expecting SPOC to beat Dizzies on the weekend

Re: 2023 Adelaide Footy League- Division 1
Goodwood's football director is a male.
The president is female, Jordan Dodds, and she is fine and determined to bring the club focus back to its core business which is football, FULL support there!
In 'MY' opinion, the previous board focused too much on touchy feely social issues, self promotion, instead of, yes lets have of some of that, but, they should have been more aware of protecting of what hundreds of Saints SPONSORS, players, volunteers and supporters have worked so hard all this time to retain since 1985 and that, above everything else, was protecting the Mens Div 1 record. That's what attracts sponsors, players to the club and parents with their kids. That's what makes other Ammo clubs contacted us and ask us how do we do it and how have we done it for so long.
Anyway, had a couple of 1st pick champions taking the year off to allow them to pursue their career after footy. Those players will be back next year as will the playing group from this year. Injury played a huge part and a couple of games that got away. Duck did everything a coach could do . All admiration and respect for the coaching group. Perhaps not so for the backroom football department! The B's and C's will win flags in their respective grades. As they have done for years. Girls have just gone 4 in a row (Goodwood likes doing premierships in a row).
Hopefully The Saints will return as a force in 2025.
WE WILL BE BACK!!
