@Armchair expertPeter Siddle has left Somerset after sustaining an injury to his hand which has ruled him out of the remainder of his stint with the club as an overseas player.
Siddle, 38, fractured a finger while attempting to take a catch off his bowling during Somerset's T20 Blast defeat to Hampshire last month and the injury will not heal before the end of his contract later this month.

Re: Ashes 2023
So what do the Poms do to get back into the series?
Bowling needs a change so do they replace Anderson and Robinson for Wood and Ali?
Pope out for a proper keeper and bat Bairstow at 3?
Can they afford to rest Anderson or Broad? They couldn’t play 5 Tests at their age in a short period of time

Pope is out for the series and requires surgery on his shoulder
If England are smart they bring in Foakes and bat Jonny at 3.

Re: Ashes 2023
https://www.espncricinfo.com/story/lord ... of-1385432
2001- The previous instance of England going 0-2 down after the first two matches of a home Test series was in the 2001 Ashes. The ongoing series is only the eighth for England at home, where they lost their first two Tests. Six of those eight home Test series have been the Ashes.
2- The number of Test matches lost by England since 1950 despite scoring 300-plus runs in both innings, including the Lord's Test against Australia. The other instance was against India in 2008, where they made 316 and 311 for 9 in Chennai.
0- No player had scored more than 150 runs in the fourth innings of a Test match while batting at No. 6 and lower, before Ben Stokes' 155 at Lord's on Sunday. The previous highest was an unbeaten 149 by Adam Gilchrist against Pakistan in the 1999 Hobart Test.
1- Only one player has a highest fourth-innings score for England in the Ashes than Stokes' 155. Mark Butcher, who scored an unbeaten 173 at Headingley in 2001, sits at the top.
9- The number of sixes hit by Stokes during his 155 - the most by a player in an innings in the Ashes. He surpassed his record of eight sixes during his match-winning effort at Leeds, in 2019. Stokes is now also the leading six-hitter of the Ashes with 33 hits, going past Kevin Pietersen's 24.
5- The number of sixes hit by Andrew Flintoff against South Africa during his 142 in 2003. That was the most number of sixes in a Test innings at Lord's until Stokes' nine against Australia. The nine sixes by Stokes is also the most in a Test match at Lord's, surpassing Graham Gooch's seven sixes against India in 1990.
504- Short balls bowled by the pacers at Lord's are the most for a Test match since 2015, as per ESPNcricinfo's ball-by-ball logs. The previous highest was 426, during the 2017 Wellington Test between New Zealand and Bangladesh. The 18 wickets that fell off those 504 bouncers at Lord's are the joint-most for a match, alongside the 2015 Hamilton Test between New Zealand and Sri Lanka.
8- Player-of-the-match awards for Steven Smith across 34 Ashes Tests, the most for any player in the Ashes. Smith has a total of 13 of these awards in Test cricket, the joint-most for any player since his debut in 2010, alongside Joe Root.
74- Extras conceded by England at Lord's. Only once have England conceded more extras in an Ashes Test - 83 at The Oval in 1934. It is the sixth-highest among England's tally in all Tests and the most by any team in a Test since England gave away 82 extras against New Zealand in 2015, also at Lord's.

They can't rest Broad, he's the main man at the moment. Anderson looks dangerous but it's not happening for him at the moment.
Robinson hasn't been terrible, looks like he can keep going but his overall fitness needs some work.
Wood surely comes in at some point. Might be Anderson getting a rest.
Read my reply. It is directed at you because you have double standards

I just watched it again. I’m wrong - this time he didn’t tap downJimmy_041 wrote:If you look closely, he actually taps the ground with his bat IMO effectively stating "crease" hence why he walked off.MW wrote:I have sympathy both ways here.gazzamagoo wrote:If Carey was keeping up would he have left the crease?
No?
Why Not?
BECAUSE HE WOULD HAVE BEEN STUMPED.
The fact he kept in the crease, scratched guard, then left leans me towards it being the wrong decision. If he ducked the bouncer, looked around and walked out to pressure a run, then fair game.
He did it every time he went for a stroll
I watched him at the time and thought he had done the right thing by tapping the ground
On the Starc "catch", I was always taught dont let the ball go anywhere near the grass after you've caught it.
At the time, I thought he could be in trouble with what he did
But I dont, religiously, read the rules
#### him - he’s out
dedja: Dunno, I’m just an idiot.

We have really poked the bear this time,
we MUST win this or they'll get a huge sniff of victory,
don't get sucked in to bowling short crap down legside.

Re: Ashes 2023
Can't believe they'd play Woakes and Robinson ahead of Tongue from what he showed at Lords. They must be afraid Wood and Tongue together might leak too many runs, but they need to win and they have more chance of doing that with a bit of pace than three fast-medium bowlers. Robinson doesn't impress me much, looks like playing cricket is a chore when things are running against him.Jim05 wrote:Reported that Tongue and Anderson to be rested with Wood and Woakes coming in. Brook at 3, Bairstow 6 and Moeen 7 is a huge advantage for Australia IMO.
