Re: Ashes 2023
Was clearly out and just a stupid move by Jonny. Summed up his test really.
Stokes was incredible, it is kind of frustrating he only bats like this in the biggest moments because he is a better bat then his stats suggest.
We had everything go our way this test and still lost, not great signs unfortunately.

The "spirit of the game" discussion is an interesting one.
Do you think Duckett knew he was caught by Starc?

If you want to go quickly, go alone.
If you want to go far, go together.

The word is a racial slur in the UK. If it has been dropped that member should have his membership ripped up and banned for life from all cricket grounds in the UK.Jim05 wrote:The English use the term “Paki” in everyday talk and don’t think there is anything wrong with it.gazzamagoo wrote:whufc wrote:Jim05 wrote:Usman wasn’t happy at a couple of the old cronies in the long room and looked like he wanted to belt one. Yeah noticed that…hopefully it was in regards to the bairstow dismissal and not anything more personal or upsetting.
Probably told him to choke on a ham sanga.
I’d say they probably threw that at him

England can go and get stuffed. Can't wait to beat these smug flogs at Headingley and retain The Ashes.

I think some of the rules need to be looked.
Obviously there is a tad….’greyish’ areas in some of the intent of the rules which were hidden by the fact the spirit of the game meant they were never raised
There is no spirit of the game in any professional sport anymore so maybe the rules need a bit of tweaking to clarify the intent of them.
Obviously the ball being dead was intended to stop batsmen from taking a sneaky run when the ball was being thrown around the field or mis throwed. The spirit of the game was never for it to be an opportunity for a fielder to run/stump a batsmen who clearly believed it was ‘over’ and was not intending to get any advantage.

Re: Ashes 2023
If Bairstow was in his crease and the ball deflected away after hitting the stumps and they pinched a bye we would all be saying fair play, the ball wasn't dead, and stupid from Carey. So with Bairstow out of his crease surely it's simply a case of stupid from Johnny and sorry but that's out.
What is the spirit of the game these days? Players reviewing when they have clearly edged the ball. Short pitched bowling to stem the run rate with fields that border on Bodyline field placings. Wicketkeepers claiming catches when the ball has clearly bounced into their gloves. Faking a throw when you don't even have the ball in your hands - recently outlawed with penalty runs against.

The catch wasn't out. It's why in the past, players diving for a catch have always turned their hand upward to keep the ball off the ground

Wasn’t he in his crease when Carey released the ball?
He stepped out after/during the balls travel to the stumps.

Fair chance considering he was half way to the boundary walking off.

So we could have ran him out as well?

t.
Excellent point.
The next time that happens, we will consider it against the spirit of the game.

Re: Ashes 2023
All this talk about changing the rules for one very sloppy cricketer who has a history of being a slackass.
It's the batters responsibility to know the ball is dead before he wanders off.
The umpire contributed because he wasn't watching the play.
The ball wasn't dead because Carey had a throw at the stumps as soon as he gloves it.
The MCC should throw out the idiots chanting cheats as the players went through the long room.
Personally, I would've lost my shit!
Being called a cheat in your face over a decision made by the umpires is about as low as you can go.
England have been outplayed and outsmarted in both games so far and they are not liking it at all.
Maybe a few of the members had big bucks on the result?
For Australia to win without Lyon is a bloody good result.
I don't think we'll lose a game from here.
