Re: Australian tour of India 2023
Listening to Pat Cummins all but certain Agar is going across to India. The rumours surrounding 4 fours spinners and only one spare batsmen seem to be pretty spot on with Boland expected to not be on the plane.

Cummins is quite right to take the line that Agar in Sydney was by no means an audition for India.
Because if it was he would not be under consideration.

I wouldn't think Boland would be much good on the Indian wickets at his pace. Agar is probably considered more of a batsman/spinner than vice versa.
Wonder if Ashton Turner is in the minds of selectors in some capacity, he seems to be ever improving.

I would like to see Zampa get a gig in India. He would be up for the challenge and give as good as he gets. He has also had success against the Indian bats in ODI cricket.

X 2
Plus he’s a far better option than Agar.

Re: Australian tour of India 2023
How many players would they take to India - A touring squad of 15?
Warner
Khawaja
Labuscharne
Smith
Head
Green
Carey
Starc
Cummins
Hazelwood
Lyon
Boland
Agar
Handscomb - back up keeper gives him the nod in front of Renshaw.
Murphy
Or do they take 2 more and fly Green & Starc in when fully fit
If so
Renshaw
Morris.

It's now a distant memory when the SCG was a spinners deck, hasn't been for years so you're right, it was hardly an audition.

Yeah agree. Only benefit to taking Boland would be the oversees experience.....has he toured with the side yet.
Agree though that if fit Starc / Cummins is probably the best pace combo. I wonder however if they are looking at playing 3 spinners and only Cummins as the pacemen with Green to open for an over or two before spin comes on. Personally, i wouldn't, i think Head would do just as good a job as Agar or Murphy so might as well play the extra bats if you are thinking that way,

Smith

Green

Not sure how many they will pick in the squad but what you've named has to be close to what they go with plus maybe Zampa and maybe they'll retain Harris but they don't really need him if Renshaw is selected.

Re: Australian tour of India 2023
I think then you probably have to play 2 pacemen, 2 spinners and Head/Smith/Laba play as the 3rd spinner, with Handscombe batting at 6.
It's probably not a bad balanced side albeit Agar as the second option could well be a very a poor option. I'm on the fence with Agar only because we have seen the likes of Clarke, Krejza, O'Keefe do really good things with the ball before in India. In Australia Agar is terrible but India is like an entirely different sport.

Only 2 quicks?
The fascination of playing 15 spinners in India is rubbish. Head and Labuschagne looked far more dangerous than Agar, and Zampa? Please, the bloke is not an international cricketer.
Hazlewood must play, Cummins plays, Green plays, the only variable is playing Lyon and Agar if not Head is the second spinner with Labuschagne's leggies potentially a threat over there.

Re: Australian tour of India 2023
I'd want to have more bats than bowlers in the side I think.. we could take 10 wickets each innings with Cummins, Hazelwood, Green, Lyon + a part timer or two.. but it's the batting that lets us down.
I'd consider playing a Handscomb or Renshaw at 7 and Carey at 8.
1. Warner
2. Khawaja
3. Labuschagne
4. Smith
5. Head
6. Green
7. Renshaw
8. Carey
9. Cummins
10. Lyon
11. Hazlewood
Only downside with the above is 6 left handed bats.

Don't mind that side at all.

We’re not bowling India out twice with that line up.
A bowler short IMO
Have to start with 2 genuine spinners.
Whether that’s Agar, Swepson or Zampa.

They are genuine as it’s their craft but I guess none of them are very good is the issue here.
I still prefer one of them to play instead of using part part timers.
For me I think the key is whether Warner and Head can make runs over there coz if they can’t we’re in real trouble

Have you forgetton we are playing India. That country has been turning average spin bowlers into world beaters for years. Kreja, O'Keefe and even Clarke have been more than servicable over there.
Last time we won a series Hauritz played in all the tests.
