mal wrote:Some good signs looking forward
Travis Head[76] and Alex Carey[70] rescued the team from 4/70 to 230 first innings
Henry Hunt [65 *] and Jake Weatherald[53] have contributed well in the 2nd innings
Jordan Buckingham 4/78 [21] did well
Mentions for Travis Alex and Jake for their half tons
And to Henry Hunt 97 not out of 326 balls
Those 4 players did enough to get a draw out of this match

I agree MAL.
The numbers of balls faced by the lower order also a plus. Agar's run out given the context of the game was abysMAL.

Once again Hanscombe bats way too long should have declared once the lead got about 320

How good, that innings just helps grow Hunt's reputation.

He is the only batter we have that values his wicket, well done Henry.

100% agree. Big future has Henry.
If we could clone him to bat at 3 we would have a pretty decent batting line up.

Re: Australian Domestic Season 2022/2023
Back at Adelaide Oval on Sunday for a Shield game against Tasmania. Must win!
My XI
Hunt
Weatherald
Head
Carey
Drew
Barrett
Fallins
Johnson
Agar
Grant
Buckingham
I'm picking on form and a gut feel for those who have what it takes at First Class level.
We saw last year Drew is ready. He scored a rapid 98 (85 balls) on the weekend and the three blokes picked to bat in front of him all failed both innings. He should've been an automatic selection in the first game - correct that error.
Barrett consistently scores runs and batted the majority of the day last week for his 93. Give him a chance. Southern Districts all time leading run scorer and just turned 30. He clearly has ticker - something this Redbacks batting line up needs.
Fallins bowled beautifully on the weekend and can hold his own with his aggressive batting as well. Pick him while he is confident. I was looking for Pope or Manenti to take McSweeney's spin position, but neither had great figures last weekend and it would be a very long tail if Pope was picked with 4 fast bowlers.
Johnson I'm picking for two reasons. One is he consistently takes wickets and has done for years, including 5 on the weekend and blitzing through Tea Tree Gully in last years Premier Cricket Grand Final, which showed his class and how dangerous he can be. The other reason is he's a left hander, has pace and moves the ball. I think he would complement the rest of the bowling line up. Nothing against Conway, I think he'll be handy for the Redbacks, but give Johnson a chance while these decks are fresh and on the back of some wickets.
PS. I know there's no chance of the above happening. Maybe Drew gets a gig if there is a discussion of the teams for Round 2 and the selectors admit to each other they completely forgot about him when they picked last weeks team.

Could Drew bat at 3 so we can have Head, Carey at 4,5.

Unfortunately the selectors will come up with the excuse that he made 98 against a weak team. Barrett, along with Brad Davis, have been shafted by Tim Nielsen as they have been a threat to Harry's position over the years. Both way better players than Harry but Tim wants to look after his son!
There's a 2nd X1 game next week - let's see how things go but I suspect the Shield team will probably be unchanged.

Looks like there is an injury concern over someone in the Shield team, that's why 13 have been named? I see Tim has appointed his son as captain of the 2nds
