Not yet, but on the radar - just have to find some free time haha!

Don't get reeled in by the menu, let the missus order one of the seafood dishes (get the gnocchi with it), go for the meatballs, it's the cheapest dish on the menu but they are the absolute tits, you'll battle to to get through them after knocking off the rest of the missus' dish.

Off to town for work in a couple of weeks and will be hitting up BBQ City on Gouger Street. Fricking love that joint. Food is bloody beautiful.
So you've seen everything have you?
Yep
Have you ever seen a man eat his own head?
No
Well you haven't seen everything then have you.

Wrasse & Roe in Port Douglas,

if you're a seafood lover like me, you really have to go here, if you're up there.
From the Coffin Bay Oysters, to the pan-seared Scallops, to the Coral Trout & the big fat chilli Mud crabs, everything was top notch & delicious.
Combined with the best whites, reds & beers from Hemingway's Brewery, it's somewhere I thoroughly do recommend.

You won't wanna leave where you're staying if work is paying for it, their food is brilliant.

Gumeracha Hotel.

Still just a down-to-earth, unpretentious small town local. New owners have been there for a couple of years IIRC.

Unlike some other pubs which try to do overdo the fancy type of dishes and fail, they have got the right balance of basic pub grub menu with a few extras and embellishments which they pull off* well. Big, but not ridiculous sized meals with decent salad or veg.

Would you drive up from the city for it? Probably not
Would you call in if you were passing through at the right time? Definitely

Been there a couple times recently 9/10.

I remember one day at the Gum pub when we had about 20 yabbies all lined up on the front bar hypnotised/asleep with their bums in the air.
Something I'll never forget.

Change Gumeracha for Spalding and that's we have in our town at the moment.

If you ever heading through the Spalding Pub is worth a stop for the exact reasons mentioned in the above post.

I should've gone there a while back instead of the winery.

The manager hung around and talked too much, he asked how the starters were, it was friggin carrot, celery some other shit along with dip, it was hardly going to get a 5 star review, it was basically hurry up and polish it off to get the next round happening.

Exactly, lovely bloke but far too much over the top.

I never not buy at least one bottle from the Cellar door of where I eat, I made an exception that day.

Green Garden Cafe - Gawler Place.

Starving.. tired.. slightly hungover - wanted to go to the Korean place couple blocks away but was pouring rain so opted for a closer walk under shelter. Stopped at this cafe. Used to go there a few years ago, did good lasagne, change of ownership recent years hadn't been so went in.

Chicken Parmigana + chips + salad - $16.95
Medium Flat white with lactose free milk - $4.95.

Settle in to a seat.. "Parmi" comes out.. "Parmi" it was a shit cut of chicken that was sinewy, thin and covered in a crumb that was glistening from oil. Looked as though it had been dipped in a semi hot bucket of oil. To add salt to the wounds, the "Parmi" topping consisted purely of some grated cheese melted on top. That's it. No marinara sauce, just grated cheese.

Chips that had been double cooked - obviously sitting around a couple hours, then dunked into the fryer again to "freshen up" rock hard, disgusting, no filling.

Salad was a weird concoction that included sliced olives from a jar and canned champignon mushrooms with some sliced raw carrot, onion and baby cucumber.

Coffee came out about 10min later - stinking hot, couldn't drink, waited till it cooled and was disgusting. Worse than the instant coffee i'd make at home - went straight in the bin.

Never going back.

That's your own fault for not trusting the process of long time cure known as a KFC zinger burger or HJ double whopper with cheese not tomato.

Staff were friendly, i'll give them that.

Was cold and almost a sterile feel to it, tables poorly planned out was like walking through a maze to get to the counter.

I'll definitely use this this as a guide, I can see myself venturing to Nepenthe Wines

Nepenthe is currently being renovated but should be ready by the end of the year.
Is going to be very nice when done.
