Must be a substantial gale to the right or the eagles are very very ordinary

Re: R9 Eagles v South
South are far more desperate and are holding their shape better than the eagles

There won't be too much footage of that game in either team's season highlights reel.

Final quarter lasted 22 minutes and 22 seconds.
I can't recall having seen a shorter quarter.

Does this mean the five is set. Two games and percentage separates 5th and 6th, with nine games to go.
Nothing is certain but going to difficult for those outside the five

Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

South and Norwood aren’t good enough or deserve to play finals. I guess it depends on what team the Ravens send out from week to week but doubt they will be caughtam Bays wrote:Does this mean the five is set. Two games and percentage separates 5th and 6th, with nine games to go.

Re: R9 Eagles v South
Find myself wondering if games should go ahead when conditions are that bad. Slogging and slipping away in a mud bath is a poor spectacle and very few of the skills of the game are on display. Don’t get me wrong, I appreciate the endeavour and perseverance of the players, it’s just that the game strays so far from the norm,it’s almost a different game all together
Players win touches, Teams win matches, Clubs win Premierships.

Re: R9 Eagles v South
Happy with the win but the only score of the last 1/4 was a point in SA only foray into their half. Say that SA should have had the game wrapped up at 1/4 time. That Overall miss from 1m out cost SA dearly.

191 tackles for south would be up there for most ever. I've never seen that many before.

I wonder what they classify as a tackle. The whole match was just a rolling scrum.

Re: R9 Eagles v South
Classic middle of winter scrap in a mud heap. The sooner they get rid of cricket pitches on SANFL ovals the better!
Hugely important win for the Eagles to keep in touch with the top 3 and have some breathing space in the 5.
When goals are at a premium, you can’t afford to stuff up like Overall did, trying to kick the ball out of the ground and miss from 2m out. I thought at the time that might’ve cost South the game and it did. Almost evened up by D.Menzel attempting to kick around the body on his left from 20m out straight in front. When 21 other players are busting their ass all day just trying to get the ball moving forward, leave the ego’s in the change room!
6-3 is a great result for the Eagles at the half way point of the season and a well deserved break next weekend.

Re: R9 Eagles v South
Strangely I rather watch matches like that, a battle of attrition vs games under a roof.
Reminded me of a Glenelg/south game where I think it snowed in the mid 00s

Re: R9 Eagles v South
As soon as Overall decided to kick a torpedo kick 1 metre out from goal in the first quarter (over the fence!) and misses it…. I thought “we will lose by less than a goal”.
Stupid, silly and self-indulgent football.
Thought we played the better footy for half of the game, Eagles better last half.
Some good efforts but some players MIA today when it was needed and counted.
Season shot. Put a fork in us … we are cooked!

Re: R9 Eagles v South
Ugh
Cant fault the endeavour of either side today. As already pointed out South squandered the early dominance (Sam Overall..
) before the Eagles gained the upper hand and held on.
Missed the experience of Broadbent and Gibbs.
2 games behind 5th at the half way point of the season sees South needing to win 6/9 at a minimum I would have thought. 6 of those are at home, but there's been adequate evidence already to suggest we're not quite up to it this season.
