You do what you blokes did last year......tackle, crash, chase, harrass, smother, spoil etc to win the footy and then run it with speed to prevent them flooding back and to kick it into your leading tall target in the forward 50.

Winning in the SANFL ain't rocket science it is getting the players to do it consistantly and believe in the game plan that is the hard part

Exactly right Tassie. And to do this you need a group of at least 10 quality midfielders at the top of their game. The Eagles had this in 2006. They will need to assess again and reach this figure in 2008 to have any chance. Then you can work on forwards/defence/depth etc.

I agree with everything written above. IMHO Centrals recruiting needs to be followed by other teams (mainly my eagles  ) .They recruit players who are not picked up by the AFL that will be either stars or very good long term state league players. Thus they get players who bodywise and mentally are tougher than juniors or junior rookie listed AFL players.
And lets face it these type of Footballers don't not get drafted very often by the afl and can be long term members of the team.

Well done Centrals but come on eagles

mickyj - I reckon the Eagles have, in general, followed this, eg Passador, Inkster, Powell, Jarrad, Colville, etc.

Guess that's why I was a bit surprised, and at times have been critical of, Schwarze.

If he kicked straight he could turn into a tim evans type .You know he came to port from Vic as a CHB and turned into a 100 goal FF.

Nah, didn't know that about Evans. Or Stephen Nicholls who came over as a wingman.

Evans originally came from Tasmania, then went to Geelong, then to Port.

Centrals recruiting is nothing short of TOP shelf.
Not only do they get key position players [forward-Lawry, defender-Grima, on baller goalkicker-Callinan] but their recruits fit in straight away and play 20 odd games every year. The year before it was O'Sullivan etc etc

Yep every team has to lift the bar just to get close to Centrals who may lose 2, 3 or 4 who knows as they do evey year but you can bet your last dollar they already have at least that number in good replacements already inked in!

Yep, G, all seemingly read-to-play players, but what better environment to come into.

I think that a key aspect about our recruits is that not only are they good players but they are of excellent character. Without sound character, you don't get a look-in at the Ponderosa.

I think a good was made in another thread, in that there were so few team changes in the CDFC line up. Injuries excepted, they pick their best, and stick to it.

Coming 3rd has hurt and I'm now hungry to get back to number one - top of the chimney - where the Eagles belong! Going past the chimney will be a reminder every day now for us.

Will Centrals hunger and passion wane in 2008?

The Bulldogs have set the pace - up to the rest of us now to meet the challenge.

Its not hard, do what they do only better, they are just doing what Port did in the 90s but better. The challenge is the actual doing....

you will never win 6 in a row
port had to keep winning to keep their noses in front of the afl.
centrals are a good club but sadly not a great club.
i suppose you have to start somewhere though.
