That leaves just West.

It was inferred that We are struggling as well.

Not necessarily - but given our rattling of the tins when Covid hit, that would be a reasonable assumption.

My understanding is that the $2M mortgage that was hanging over us for quite a few years has now been fully paid (courtesy of the footy park dividends) which leaves us with minimal debt which is a healthy financial situation to be in.
Good plans in place for facility upgrades which I assume is largely covered by various grants.. along with the long term vision to relocate the licenced premises…and after last Saturday we surely must be top 3 certainties this year!!
Players win touches, Teams win matches, Clubs win Premierships.

In terms of finances all the clubs are facing increasing costs to fund expanded football programs. Most, if not all, are looking at second training ovals to cope with the demands. This will involve expenditure on facilities. Talk of Glenelg at Morphetville, Sturt at Urrbrae.
Hopefully the SANFL recognize this.

Yes, We are finally debt-free, plus We now have council approval to build a second pokies venue on Main North Road.

I'm out of the loop up here, we only have one pub with pokies in it and its the worse pub in the region so I never go there BUT are pokie venues still the gold mine they once were especially on the back of the current covid situations???

Officially signed today.

Not that I play the Pokies (prefer watching replays of the Eagles Premiership Years, Q2 2020 especially) but I believe on line gambling has impacted on revenue. Still a good income stream for the Clubs but they may not be considered the cash cow they once were.

Yeah that’s what I was thinking. Surely on line gambling is only going to have a greater impact as time goes on.

Have also seen some AFL clubs in recent years refuse to take money from pokies eg I believe North Melbourne are one.

Still no announcement on how Port and Crows will compile their “supplementary” list? 20 players they need to have nominated isnt it?

After being part of the consultation phase in developing an AFL Top Up Players COVID contingency plan, SANFL is supportive of the model released by the AFL today.

SANFL General Manager Football Matt Duldig today said:

“SANFL has worked closely with the AFL, Adelaide and Port Adelaide football clubs and SANFL Clubs to find the best solution to these potential challenges we continue to face at all levels of football with the pandemic.

“Importantly, we believe the model ensures the strength and integrity of our competition will be protected should the need arise for AFL COVID Contingency Top Up Players to be activated.

“The COVID pandemic continues to present challenges for football, however, ultimately, the regulations of this model ensure continuity of our Hostplus SANFL League in season 2022 and minimise the impact on SANFL team lists.

“We would like to acknowledge AFL General Manager Football Brad Scott for working collaboratively with both SANFL and the AFL clubs in the development of the guidelines under this model.

“Pleasingly, we have been able to minimise any potential impact on our competition by being involved in the consultation process.”

Key points of the AFL COVID Contingency Top Up Players model are:

AFL Clubs can register up to 20 additional players to make up their ‘Top Up COVID Contingency Pool’, with a maximum of four players from each NGA aligned*
SANFL Club
Clubs may only select an activated player if there is less than 28 AFL listed players available, and it is not reasonable in the circumstances to play an AFL Listed player.
The number of ‘COVID Contingency Players’ a club activates must not exceed the number of ‘Protocol Players’ (those positive to COVID-19 or a close contact) that the Club has at any point in time.
If not selected for AFL, the SANFL player will always play for their SANFL Club.
SANFL Clubs with be financially compensated for each SANFL match a player misses, or if a long-term injury is sustained, under these guidelines.

*Central District, Glenelg, North Adelaide and Sturt are aligned to Adelaide Football Club under an existing Next Generation Academy (NGA) program. Norwood, South Adelaide, West Adelaide and Woodville-West Torrens aligned to Port Adelaide Football Club.

What happens if a SANFL club has the same issues.
Will the AFL help us out, by letting us borrow players from either the power reserves or Crows reserves?

I suppose we get f**k all notice too, I'm thinking that if Sloan wakes up Saturday morning feeling shithouse, they will just pluck a player in an "aligned club", that suits his style of game, leaving a big hole in the SANFL side. (or up to 4 holes!)

Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Maybe true SANFL followers should establish a go-fund-me type of slush fund to pay any potential fill in AFL players a "tidy sum" to stay true to the local comp
