Adel Footy League- Women's

Post by Lightning McQueen »

The women's comp is expanding nicely, 8 divisions this season, 53 teams.

The standard looks to be improving immensely from the games I've seen so far this season, div 1 is going to be a belter of a division with a very high standard of football on display.

Even the lower divisions look to have improved tenfold.

Its amazing to see there are now 8 divisions. After a couple of years without a Senior Women's side (only under 18's), its been great to get a team back into competition and to see such enormous interest from new players. We went from only have around 12 players a month ago to now having between 25-28 with a handful of those being completely new to the game ranging from the age of 17 to 40.

I am also a fan of the Saturday timeslot. I think it makes it a lot easier to integrate the Women's football teams into your standard club event schedules including Saturday night presentations and events.

You guys used to be one of the premier clubs in the SAWFL, it's good to see the numbers getting back out there and yes, the 4:45 timeslot's will give them excellent exposure, the fixture right across the board is great for the game.

You'd be surprised mate, check a game out on dartfish.

Blackfriars are a div 3 team and they have at least a dozen players that can kick 40+ metres on the run and hit a target.

Leah Noto, who won the medal for best on ground in the Modbury vs Goodwood Grandfinal Saturday, slotted one from between 35-40 out on the boundary with ease. Pretty successful weekend for Leah winning the Div 7 Grandfinal Saturday along with best on ground, then backing it up and slotting a penalty to win her soccer grandfinal on the Sunday.

People with that amount of talent really grind my gears! :D

I do feel bit sorry for Ingle Farm and Hectorville being a win outside the top 4. Pembroke and Gepps cross coming into this division from a lower grade and bringing with then a 5-0 record at the time proved a bridge too far - no other side in the division was undefeated at that stage, so the two new entrants went straight to the top.

Good for the competition though, the gradings clearly proved to be the right move after they were made, but still disappointing for those clubs who started in that grade and were impacted.

Not sure how other clubs went, but Glenunga struggled to consistently fill a side for their first foray into women's football. Filled the gaps with U16's, but didn't have many actual seniors at all. Hopefully that will change next season.

That really irks me in junior football, some clubs ask to begin in lower grades knowing they can get a “flyer” before going up at regrading
