Hopefully the results come from this excellent and decisive decision by the Bombers.
Knightsy is a great coach with a excellent reputation with the boys. I am rapped that he
has accepted the job and I feel it is the best way for the Essendon Football Club to move
forward. The boys will be playing finals footy next year and pushing for a flag in 2009.
Makes the appointment of Harvey, Bailey and Ratten look like jokes. With his premiership
experience Knightsy knows how the game is won and will be able to pass that onto the lads...
He bled for the Richmond jumper, now let him bleed the Essendon Football Club...

Hutchy told Garry Lyon and as stated on the Footy Show tonight that Hardwick had the job stitched up Monday but his last presentation he said that Essendon would be away off being a premiership contender whereas Knights apparently told the Selection Sub Committee (and obviously the Board believed it) that the current group are a contender???

As I said on the main forum - they obvioulsy took no notice of his record or the reasons why he left the PAMFC!

While i admit it is a strange decision. I wasnt aware that you needed to win a Premiership to become a good coach or at least to be qualified enough??

The thing that really puzzles me is that they went through all the Sheedy drama only to employ the bloke in the next office. Hindsight is a wonderful thing but you would think they would do things differently if they had their time over.

In Knights defence, he has improved a bit since the PAFC days, He did a pretty good job with a Bendigo side that had very little to work with when it came to non listed players (Not up to VFL Standard). But i honestly didnt think he was any chance to get the job but the Essendon board must have seen something.

If like Hutchy said that Hardwick said they would have to go through a rebuilding phase and thats what lost him the job then you have to wonder about that Essendon board because the squad cleary needs an overhaul and IMO when they signed up Knights the chance of Judd heading to Windy Hill dropped from 20% to pretty much no chance.

In any case good luck Knightsy

Imagine how Sheeds would feel about this.

If I was a bombers fan, I'd be happier if the club had appointed Marg Angove.

my mails is Harwick had the Job 3 days ago, however when the board asked for an assessment of the list, Harwick responded honestly by saying, the list needed toi be re-built and the Bombers were 2 years away from finals

However, Knights said, list was strong, no major changes were required and the Bombers could make the finals next year

This decision amazes me

When the Board sacked sheeds, they themselves said the list needs to be re-built, most importantly said they would target a big name coach, and one with Premiership experience as a coach or player

Knights ticks none of these boxes, and Harwick lost the opportunity due to his honesty, the board has suddenly done a back flip

the Bombers for the Bottom 4

Well funny enough it turns out that hardwick is right, they wont be ready for about 3 years. FFS anyone can see that. And to appointment Knights, bloody hell....check references!!!

You again?

Ratten's AFL coaching record should have made him the first caretaker ever to get the sack, wouldn't gloat just yet, Carlton...
