From what I saw on TV and in several looks at it on the web site, Danger was still 3 or 4 feet from Kelly when Kelly gave up positioning to kick and hand-balled on instead. Then Danger hunkered his body and kept charging.

The question will be did Butler make a tackle? I'd so then yes correct decision but it doesn't look like it to me, easily a play on call to be honest.DOC wrote:Can't be holding the ball if there is no tackle and if a bump knocks the ball loose play on.

Incorrect disposal IMO. Had plenty of time to dispose of the ball properly and didn’t

Activate the sub and the bloke being subbed off automatically misses the next 2 weeks. Would fix the issue pretty quickly....Armchair expert wrote:Kangaroos admit to cheating with their sub

That is the rule for concussion but not other injuries that have the loophole that they can be cleared to play by the Afl medical officerLaughingKookaburra wrote:Activate the sub and the bloke being subbed off automatically misses the next 2 weeks. "Concussed players must already sit out a mandatory 12-day recovery period under new protocols introduced by the AFL for the 2021 season."
"Should a subbed-out player recover from an injury other than concussion before the next match, he may be granted to play provided his return is ticked off by the AFL Medical Officer."
And for North fans
"Any club found to be breaking the medical substitute rule can be sanctioned "for conduct unbecoming, or prejudicial to the interests or reputation of the AFL, or to bring the game of football into disrepute"."

Ah, but because the bumps been basically outlawed, he didn't expect contact maybe?

Probably the fact he was disposing of the ball, I suppose he could have just dropped it and braced himself.tigerpie wrote:Yep. How did he not see him coming, then ride the bump?MW wrote:Are you ******* serious?tigerpie wrote:Where was Kelly's awareness? Surely he saw him coming.

Re: 2021 AFL season - Round 1, tips & banter
I think the people who have a complete lack of knowledge for the game are the tossers making the rules. Yes he will get games according the the rule but the fact he is getting games in the first place is an absolute ******* joke. No malice in it whatsoever. Accidental head clash with an unfortunate outcome.MW wrote:Either a troll or a complete lack of knowledge of the game

I agree with you, my comment was around his comment that Kelly should of had awareness and rode the bump betterBum Crack wrote:I think the people who have a complete lack of knowledge for the game are the tossers making the rules. Dangerfield had the exact same incident in the gf last year.MW wrote:I agree with you, my comment was around his comment that Kelly should of had awareness and rode the bump betterBum Crack wrote:I think the people who have a complete lack of knowledge for the game are the tossers making the rules. Raised a forearm to protect himself, knocked the opponent out and didn't get reported.
Kelly in my opinion should have done the same thing.
Not raise the forearm but turn his body slightly and it would've been shoulder on shoulder.
I get he was trying to draw Dangerfield in close, as you do, but he didn't protect himself after disposing of the footy.
Again, maybe he thought Dangerfield wouldn't go through with the bump?
After 45+ years of playing, coaching and watching I think I'm qualified to comment.

Re: 2021 AFL season - Round 1, tips & banter
It's a tough one, it was a typical hit for the 1980's, player draws the opponent and offloads the ball while the the opponent is committed to the body hit, Dangerfield couldn't tackle as the ball would've been released, the hit wasn't high, it was the head contact that caused the injury.tigerpie wrote: Dangerfield had the exact same incident in the gf last year.

I think Patty is going to escape games on this, he didn't leave the ground and it was bicep to bicep, he had no other option.
Kelly was a bit too late in disposing of the ball to brace for the contact and he probably underestimated the impact that Patty was going to inflict.
It's not a good look for the game but it's been happening for years, it was an accident, exactly that unfortunately.

Whilst I 100% agree with how you've described the incident I think the line...…..'if you choose to bump' will come out. I just cant see how the AFL don't suspend him.Lightning McQueen wrote:It's a tough one, it was a typical hit for the 1980's, player draws the opponent and offloads the ball while the the opponent is committed to the body hit, Dangerfield couldn't tackle as the ball would've been released, the hit wasn't high, it was the head contact that caused the injury.tigerpie wrote: Dangerfield had the exact same incident in the gf last year.
