Re: Australian Domestic Cricket 2020-21
In a perfect world we would have a solid state level number 3 and our young guys would be able to come into the side at 5 and 6.
We don't have that luxury unfortunately. We need to identify who in the state is the best potential number 3 and then give them an extended run in that position regardless of results/performance. Chopping and changing that position will not work.
In the off season though SACA should make a class number 3 the highest priority so we can softly bring in the young guys. Once again in a dream world a person like Khawaja, Handscomb, Marsh would be perfect but none of them would come here.

No one is moving to Adelaide to play cricket at this level unfortunately.
Why would you?

Poor leadership I think.
Even though IMO 4 should be his spot for the type of player he is (aggressive strokemaker) I agree with you in the sense he should be batting 3 given he's obviously SA's best player.
But then if he fails we're screwed. We've got to build around our strengths.
Head likes to play his strokes, it works for him, we should be trying to protect him from the ball zipping around early.
Mate we’ve been screwed for 25 years.
What they’re doing isn’t working.
Surely your best batter bats at 3 regardless.
They can still be attacking batting at 3.

At least you'd get to bat twice and field once every game.

Ian chappell, Ricky ponting etc. were attacking batsmen at 3.
Head should follow in their footsteps.

I get what you're putting down, I'm just not in agreeance, I'm probably a bit old school still with the role of a number 3, number 3 should be a very stoic anchorman type character, a Boycott or Greg Chappell, can weather a storm and provide support for the stroke makers or dig in if one of the openers fail early.
As a captain I always had my best bat at number 4, I think most national sides have had the same view, we've had Smith, Clarke and Punter all at number 4 when they were at the peak of their careers.

Ponting moved to 4 but still only struck at 62 overall (his average and strike rate both dropped as he moved to 4), Ian Chappell struck at 61, hardly belting them around.

For the majority, yes. He moved to #4 after a poor series at home against the poms in 2010. He only scored two tons after that, one was a 221 @ Adelaide vs India.

FWIW, I don't think I'm right, I do back whatever they must be thinking though because if Travis makes less than 50, we'll make less than 150, I would be doing all I could to eliminate that risk, maybe it's in his head?

Re: Australian Domestic Cricket 2020-21
I've no problem with Head batting at 4 for SA - provided that they put someone appropriate at 3. That would generally be one of the more experienced bats. I wouldn't put a rookie at 3 unless they're a specialist opener (i.e. nothing necessarily wrong with playing 3 openers if they're in your 6 best batsmen available).

Who bats at 3 then?
We just don’t have anyone good enough.

Redbacks win the toss and bat at 9.30am in Autumn against a pretty decent bowling line up
