They obviously didn't take into account his time at Alberton and the reasons why he left! Surely blokes like Hardwick and Sumich would feel hard done by - not to mention Daniher!

Best coming from a Port supporter who would know! Let's just say the Players, Management and Board all hated him by the time he left!

Good point - now if they can just continue to replicate his stint now, although I think Ginever is trying hard to do a "Knights"!

I applaud the Essendon football club in appointing such a well
proven coach...75 games for 27 wins and 48 loses including
the stint at Port Magpies...
Well done Essendon..watch the Bombers fly up,up....

Brett Ratten.
After finishing at the Blues, went to the Dees for a year as assistant, the coached Norwood in the EFL, where he took them to the GF.
During this time also coached the EFL rep side, then in 2006 back to Carlton as assistant.
Carlton B & F in 1995 (premiership year), 97 & 2000. Captain Carlton 2002-2003.

Unlike Essendon people I have spoken too who aren't too happy with the appointment of Knights, all I can say is that I am rapped that the Blues have Ratts, as I have met the man, and none more genuine nor Carlton orientated then he..

Reasonably limited I guess, but better than I though. Thanks for the info.

Interesting that both clubs appointed from within, when they have been shithouse for more than a short period.

With what was on offer, those who applied, this would have to be one of the most controversial appointments of an AFL coach in years

Agreed, there were a couple of comments re Ratts at Carlton & Bails at Melbourne, but nothing like Knights at Bomberland...

IMO...I believe that Essendon may have erred on this one. It'd be hard for a club to appoint a coach after having the same one close to 30 odd years. The main reason given was Knights presentation to the selection committee was the best. Wether they looked at his record with the PAM's who knows. The fact he was coaching the Bendigo Bombers without a lot of success hangs a question mark also.
Time will tell but IMO, I feel the appointments of Ratten & Bailey were the better choices for both the Carlton & Melbourne footy clubs, as for Knights the jury is out...well out...
