Re: Port Adelaide 2020
Port Adelaide’s meteoric rise in 2020 has been capped by coach Ken Hinkley, who has been voted by his peers at the AFL Coaches Association’s Senior Coach of the Year.
Hinkley finished ahead of last year’s winner, Brisbane Lions coach Chris Fagan, and Geelong coach Chris Scott, who is preparing to partake in his second grand final with the Cats.
Making Hinkley’s victory even more notable is the circumstances in which he entered the 2020 season, with there initially being a ‘finals-or-bust’ ultimatum for the eighth-year coach.
It marks the second time the 54-year-old has taken home the award, with his inaugural victory back in 2013 - his first season at the helm.
Speaking after receiving the award, Hinkley thanked those around him who helped the club through “so much adversity in 2020.”
“There were any number of coaches who could have justifiably been awarded this honour for 2020.
“I am very grateful especially when you look at all the great coaches who have received this award in years’
gone by.
“Ultimately though this award is a team effort and a reflection upon an entire group at Port Adelaide.”
The AFLCA’s Assistant Coach of the Year Award went to former Western Bulldogs great Daniel Giansiracusa, with the Footscray VFL coach seamlessly adapting to coaching match simulation and opposition analysis.
For the seventh consecutive year, AFL 360 co-host Gerard Whateley took out the AFLCA’s Media Award.
The Neale Daniher Lifetime Achievement Award went to Neil Balme, an icon in the AFL world who has been behind some of the modern era’s most successful dynasties.
He remains a senior advisor at the Tigers and earlier this month confirmed he’d be staying put at the club in 2021 despite a lucrative offer from Adelaide.

Reckon he’d be a good fit for them, might be enough to release Houston (if that’s what they wanna do)

Re: Port Adelaide 2020
At 196cm and 96kg he's not replacing Houston, he's making Clurey or McKenzie earn their spot, it's the one spot we really need, the big bodied tall defender and I'd be happy with Aliir but there's no way Sydney are letting a contracted player walk for a 3rd or 4th rounder, no way.
It would need to be a player and 3rd or 4th rounder, at least, but given Sydney's position they might be willing to talk as they commence the rebuild and anyone that comes knocking would be at least offered the courtesy of an audience.

Hopefully he ends up at Geelong. We'll need a key back after this year. I rate him.
So you've seen everything have you?
Yep
Have you ever seen a man eat his own head?
No
Well you haven't seen everything then have you.

Aliir is more of a half back intercept/running defender isn't he?

In his role now he takes the game on, but I guess that's what he's told to do. His size suggests he's the big defender if need be.

Lucky we gave Howard away for nothing last year to make room for Aliir! ha

Chris Davies :
Today we announced that we have parted ways with assistant coach Geoff Morris due to the soft cap decreases. I can confirm though that Nathan Bassett has signed a new contract for 2021
Michael Voss is not currently contracted for 2021, but we are working through that and the changes to the soft cap at the moment. He, Schofield, Bassett and Montgomery have all played significant roles around Ken this season

I have changed my opinion on this. I do think the idea of Howard >>> Howard the reality.
In saying this, we effectively turned Howard into Mitch Georgiades, and what we give up to get Aliir can be assessed on it's own merit.
Aliir would suit the system defence that we play, and would give us the match up for the competitions gorilla. Not only that, it could potentially release McKenzie into more of a rebounding defender role, allowing us to get cleaner ball inside 50. An area that Richmond feasted on in the PF and was the difference in the end when we couldn't get clear ball from the middle.

You'd think he'd be a front runner, just has to convince the family to move to Melbourne!

With you. He's a very good player. A 3rd or 4th rounder is a give away. High second rounder for uncontracted. 1st round now.

Re: Port Adelaide 2020
Brad Crouch. Should the Saints' contract be large enough –Four- five years at roughly more than $700,000 – then Crouch's departure will net the Crows a pick (No.2) after their currently first-round selection.

Would think you would have to extend Kenny 1st then the Assistants follow.
