Stuart Dew

Having crossed paths with Stuart when we were teenagers, it was fairly evident that he was going to be something special on the football field.

Listening to him interview on the ABC today (during which he mentioned Salisbury's premiership) I noted two things.

He's also going to be a pretty handy commentator. Very concise of thought and comment. Doesn't get overhyped. And of course there's that sense of cheekiness.

What I also noted, and it's something that's great to see, is that a year on he seems totally at ease with his decision to stop playing. He probably does have some regrets. But listening to his interview, he's happy with his lot and there don't appear to be too many what ifs floating about.

So, I guess we won't hold our breaths about him playing for the Doggies again next year.

I got the feeling it was just the full time nature of AFL that wore him down. I'm sure he still enjoys footy so playing for the dogs might still be an attractive option for him. If he regretted the decision he'd probably try to get back into the AFL.

I can see why non Central supporters would trot out this or a similar tired old line ie. they would think they are being mildly humorous (at best ) or are just being sheep. I would think that most Central supporters would have a modicum of respect for a bloke who played a role in our first ever premiership.

I was being serious-have you seen him lately? He would be the first to admit that he isn't fit & has always had a battle with his weight. No disrespect intended.

Fair enough, but it sounds like he,s happy with himself, good on him I say. If he wants to play again then he would know himself he needs to get fit, if he doesnt want to play again then I guess his weight is his business.

A month or so ago Kane Cornes said in an interview that Stuart Dew was planning a comeback mid way through 2008

We discussed it on the AFL Board at the time and presumed he meant SANFL but Kane didn't specify

I guess only Stewy knows

Also Two Sheds I think I heard him say on the radio that it was a genetic problem. That's not fair picking on him if it is! I blame his father

No, it's far more deep-seated than that. I blame his father's father's father. You see, it goes farther back than you think.

Blueboy, you may not be far off the mark on that one. Stuey would not say which club he would play for but said that he is not ready to go to amateurs or Hills football yet. He is too young for that. I believe his preference would be Central but he would not confirm.

Why would he want to play anywhere but Centrals? Any talk of him going to another club if he decides to play in 2008 is just fantasy hope and dreaming by some supporters of some of the other clubs.

I bumped into him a few weekends ago and ahd a few beers with the lad.
All he wanted to do was talk about Mark Williams and how much of a f@ckwit he is.
Good for a laugh stewie.
Luv his take on life, luv his commentary, he's a top bloke, and deserves all the good breaks he gets.

You'll have to ask stewie yourself, but Choco had something against stewie and his weight.
Stewie reminds me of footballs version of mark cosgrove, loves to party but can play the game still.
Hated the discipline, coz he felt singled out i suppose, but hell, he was pissed as a newt, and funny too.
He would stop in mid sentence, then just blurt out, "Mark williams is a F@ckwit."
