Played 3 man Ambrose at Mt Barker (Aston Hills) on Sunday. Every man and his dog there- they were booked solid til 3pm.

Course in ripping nick, was impressed with the fairways. Be good if folks would repair plug marks on the greens though.

We had 4 teams and there was only a 1.6 spread between first and last (nett).

Yep, bookings are a nightmare at the minute.

With Footy not likely this season I am playing today for the first time for my handicap.
Just don't wanna embarrass myself and keep the score reasonable. See how I go.

My specialty trick shot is my 100mph Driver swing and i get too far forward and hit a 'popper' that goes 409834m high and 8m forward...[emoji15][emoji15][emoji15]

I spent a bit of time going back and forth as to whether I go out. So being in that frame of mind of not being fully committed probably impacted on play.
We had a change up in the bag, and have a mixed set currently....and went back to some balls I got in an Auction - Intech. I've managed to lose a couple at Willunga previous...

Dressed up like michelin man....managed to just catch the outside edge on the first tee and fly across the 10th fairway....

Took a layer off, but that didnt improve things too much. Miserable drizzly precipitation.

It was just horrid. Simply shit.

Went back to back pars on 11,12. Missed a f÷%@&%!%@ gimme par putt on 16....

Lost 2 balls.

But we cracked double figures....11pts[emoji23][emoji23][emoji23]

Had a crack at Willunga again yesterday. Nice to have flags back!!

Drove well, irons OK, but short game was abysmal. 2 x 4-putts and probably 3 or 4 3-putts. Chipping too was ugly.

Next game is Compass in 2 weeks for a stroke round. Yesterday's 93 doesn't bode well...

What did you think of the course?

My killer the last 2 times is the par 4 5th?? Where you have to somehow not drive it into the tree....

Yep, 6th and 7th have killed me 2 times in a row. Have hit that tree a couple of times, as I tend to draw I start shots right near it!

Also had a rubbish 8th- bladed approach way over the adjoining 3rd green, chipped back and 3 putted. Soul destroying.

I like the course overall, was in OK nick given the rain- lots of worm holes pushing mud to the surface! A few dry days in a row (unlikely for the short term) would have it in great nick I reckon.

104 on the weekend. Wind was bloody terrible. Included an air swing in that trying to hit off a bad lie. Playing partners said not to count it, but I tried to hit it and as such I made sure it counted.
Worst part was I was in the first group to tee off so there was about 25 people watching the first hole. Shanked my tee shot and only went 50 m just past the ladies tee block. Nailed my next drive on 2 straight down the middle where nobody saw. Would love to have those 2 shots swapped around!
Also put a ball on a par 3 that when measured was exactly equal distance with the existing nearest the pin marker. The others were going to move it to my ball so somebody in our group might win a prize, but I told them not to as I didn't "beat" what was already there just equalled it.
1 more week playing for my handicap, will be away this week so will be 2 more weeks before I get my last card in.
If you don't like it, change it. If you don't want to change it, it can't be that bad!

You play there now MT?

I like it, that stretch from the 4th - 7th are all very tight and rely on good placement, not power

For a public course I’ve always rated Willunga highly.
Plus there’s 3 pubs in town ;)
2017 safooty NFL tipping champ
2024 champ, Spargo’s Good Friday Cup @ Ascot

Time to get moving…
