Macca, top work on this. Your match reports are always a good read, so your views on the best players in the comp do have a lot of credibility...

Just looking at your selections from Port, and have added my comments with perspective obtained from the Bowls Club pocket:
13. J Clayton (PA) Fair enough!
19. Meiklejohn (PA) His best ever year at Port.
28. LeCras (PA) Suprised with this. I was vastly under-impressed with LeCras.
34. Summerton (PA) Yep, the kid has talent for sure.
37. Perkins (PA) Excellent, especially in the second part of the season. A real find.
38. AhChee (PA) Had a patchy season, and Chambers belted him twice.
44. Biacsi (PA) A bit low in my books. A real ball-carrier and set up a lot of our forward moves. I'd do a straight swap with LeCras here...
53. M Clayton (PA) Pure guts and determination. In my view had a better year than Ah Chee.
61. Murray (PA) This bloke impressed me, but 60ish is probably a fair call.
73. Greenwood (PA) Future star. Would he have been higher if he'd not missed games due to SANFL U/18 involvement?
76. De Pasquale (PA) Suprisingly low. A consistent performer and often in our best.
85. Hargraves (PA) Really came to the party in the last 7-8 weeks of the year. Probably a fair assessment given he was dropped in May for a while.

Fatal .. From the little I've seen of Port this year I'd have to agree with your calls on Ah Chee and Biacsi ... The latter in particular always gets plenty of it against the Legs (although many do)

Had Greenwood played 20 games he probably would have been top 50. On output per game he would have been very high in the league in my opinion. A super debut season for one so young.

LeCras' second half of the season was excellent. He was probably the no.1 CHF in the league this year or thereabouts. I think Mark Clayton had a better year last year. AhChee probably had his worst year with us but still played 10-12 really good games. Biacsi I couldnt justify putting higher. Had some truly outstanding games but also a couple of quiet ones. He may be a top 20 bolter next year if he improves at a similar rate again.

Treeby - excellent season
Jarrad - excellent season
Vince - very good season
Lindsay - ok, no better than Dabrowski
Powell - excellent season
McKenzie - injury interrupted, excellent till injury
Schwarze - poor early, but good since played at full forward
Salter - injury interrupted
Lomas - excellent season
Redden - good for first year
Cooper - average season
Passador - average injury interrupted season

My nominations for the top 100...
These deserve to be rated highly because of good form throughout the season:
Treeby
Jarrad
Powell
Lomas
Vince
Grocke - was excellent up to injury about 4 weeks ago, easily in the top 100 in the SANFL based on 2007 form.

The remaining would be good enough for top 100, but not outstanding seasons:
McKenzie
Lindsay
Dabrowski
Salter
Cicolella - he has been judged based on his own reputation, still better season than some in your top 100.

Interesting reading. I'd like to disagree with many selections (mostly dogs players who should be higher basically) but interesting to read what opposition fans think. Not going to be critical until I come up with my own list as it would be unfair IMHO.

TOP effort Macca and obviously a fair bit of thought has gone into it.
My only objections are-
1. D. Redden lucky to be getting a game at the Eags and I dont rate him at all.
2. If Ben Hart qualifies [like he has] then he is closer to the top 10 than 63.
3. From a North viewpoint, Bamford lucky to be listed.

Agree on Ben Hart but in fairness to Macca he probably hasn't seen too much of him this season.

Hart's missed a lot of footy this season, so I think it's fair enough to put him down the list. Would have been higher with more game time you'd think though.

Preference was given to those that played more games, which is why Hart was down the list. No doubt when he did play he played at a very high standard and had he played almost every game then he would have been in the top 20 for sure. Also the reason why Mckenzie is a bit lower than he could be.

Something probably should be clarified - is the list based on
1) Their performance in 2007 only or
2) Overall how good a player is, which takes into account previous seasons/reputations as well?

I suspect it is a little of both. :)

Good job anyway, Macca!

Actually, I'm just a little curious how you managed to separate the Gowans by 20 spots.

EHL, disagree with you. Think the fact that Eagles players don't rate so highly shows how much a battle this year has been with an unsettled team, particularly with injuries to our senior players.

Also shows how well the playing group has done to still finish 3rd, and the efforts of some of the younger players who have played good team footy rather than being individually brilliant, ie J Stewart, Guidreffa, etc. Of course that will count for nothing if we lose this week.

Redden is an interesting one - has probably been in the side most of the year, and Macca he probably impressed you that day down at Alberton.

Hier would be one whose ommision I'd question, but then he was injured for a lot of the first haldf of the season. Macca?
